Would the irregular service periods definitly invalidate the BMW warenty. I'm tempted to give him a call and take it for a test drive, just wouldn't want to be stuck with a lemon.

They won't warranty it if the service schedule hasn't been followed correctly.

have to also factor in that there would no doubt be a bit of movement in that price. It has been for sale in various places for a long time.

If he hasn't been able to sell it, will you when the time comes?

I would reckon that it would sell if it was legit and the add was put together better, maybe even explaining that it's cheap because of whatever reason. If I was buying it for £4k less, then I would hope that it would sell for £4k less in a year or two, considering most Z4Ms will then be outside warenty and there would be alot more dealer stamps in the service book. Something like that might not seem as big a problem on a £12k car which is what they'll all be worth by then.

Of course I could buy it and have it blow up on the way down the road. Spend thousands fixing it and then have even less chance of selling it!!lol

Add is a bit sparse of information, and it's a long way to go. Tbh, I'd put that at the bottom of my list if I were looking. I think a bit more time spent on the advert, and also the car being located in mainland UK would go a long way to getting a quicker sale.

But you're not buying it for £4k less, if that car, in that spec, had a proper service history you would be doing well to get £18k in trade in IMO. The private sale price won't be much higher than that. Also I think you'll find that most people buying these cars, even at £12k, are fairly well clued up and the service history will still be an issue. There will be other cars available with a correct history which will be much more attractive to buyers. It's your money so take a punt if you like but, with respect, I think you're being blinded by the chance of a bargain.

I wish I knew where you were able to pick these cars up for £18k

Also worth asking whether the brake fluid has ever been changed. If it's an 06 it should have been done once in 2008 and it will be due again imminently if it hasn't just been done. Worth asking and seeing what his response is, and from that you may be able to get an idea of whether it's been looked after.

Oh and to provide some more guidance on AUC prices, I've just signed on the dotted for a 56 Z4MC with 14K and LOTS of extras for £23k. To be honest I probably could have got an 07 for that but never mind.

Mikedav - this is completely unrelated but I think I spotted you the other day pulling into WTS tyres on the kew roundabout? Good looking motor - hopefully I'll see you in my MR at some point but if you see a blond chap giving you a  from the pavement that'll be me :)

I bought my Car from NI and the problems I had where primarily around getting finance for a car that was outside the mainland. The finance company wanted me to buy the car myself, bring it into the UK and then they would inspect it and make a decision to lend me the money. This was a non starter but the car was the spec I wanted so I spoke to someone I know who works in the trade and they brokered the deal. I told them what I would be prepared to pay for the car they then negotiated with the seller, collected the car from NI and delivered it to me. I agreed to get the finance through them which was very competitive and I saved myself quite a few quid (on similar cars that were available in the UK at the time).

In essence I bought the car blind but I made it clear to the trader that if the car didnt turn out to be what it appeared then I would walk. However this particular car is badly advertsised, missing history and god knows what else. There is a reason that car is cheap and as long as you go into the deal aware of this and dont expect to flip 6 months later for a tidy profit then I see know harm in taking a punt. What does it cost to get to NI anyhow.

I know someone from another forum was going to look at the car but I havent heard anything yet. I'll ask and report the info back here.

hmmm, despite the dodgy service, its still V cheap... a dealer would give more than this in PX ! I'd get it properly HPI'd, make sure its not been written off and that all the numbers match and finance etc!
