Does abs wheel speed sensor supply speedo?

Hi Guys

As per the title I was driving home tonight and several warning lights cam on at the same time, the ones you usually get for wheel speed sensor but as well as this the speedo stopped working, car drives fine I initially thought it was a battery problem but now not so sure. I will read fault codes tomorrow but just wondered why the speedo would be affected.

If it's the same as an e46 it's left rear, right is cruise control from memory.

Had this problem with our 1 series. DIS showed it was the rear left abs wheel speed sensor. I swapped out the reluctor ring + abs sensor and cleared codes - no problems since. If the scanner shows it's the wheel speed sensor then have a look at the sensor to see if there's been any rubbing against the reluctor ring. A washer can be used as a quick fix if there's only been minor rubbing but this method is prolonging the inevitable.

Yes, E85 left rear wheel speed sensor drives Speedo. Fixed mine today, beware aftermarket sensors! See my post of today.
