Hi all,
Part of my ongong cold start misfire post here
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133337

So does anyone know the answer to this question, would I get a code for a defective coil or plug or lead??

Hi Mark
I would have thought a miss firing coil or plug would leave a fault code, from the video you posted I’d say it was a leaking injector and the knocking is the excess fuel in the cylinder being burnt, although I’m no expert so only my best guess from reading other posts.

It did in my case.I could read it on an obd scanner
I do not recall which code but it showed me which coil was faulty

That thread is a bit of a mess. Just a collation of random thoughts and people repeating something they saw posted elsewhere.

You won't get a code for a defective coil or plug. You can only get an individual cylinder misfire code that tells you what cylinder has a problem or generic bankwise cods that tell you that a group of cylinders has an issue.

If you want to diagnose the problem you should use MHD to get a data log of the issue. That will give you an idea where the problem is. A data log of a brief run through the gears at high load will also help to pinpoint issues.
