(Hopefully this works)

£10k for a virtually brand new X6 (2.5K miles, 3.0D) is mental and so I reckoned the price was wrong so I e-mailed the seller and this is the response....

Hello,

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2009 BMW X6! Although I am registered in the UK,i recently moved to Huelva, Spain (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in UK due to the fact that it's an UK version (right handed),it meets all UK standards.I bought this car from UK and It still has UK registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets all United Kingdom guidelines so there will be no problem regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, No finance. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in you name.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days. Final price is GBP 10,000 (the price includes shipping and insurance fees). The price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in the Spain is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle and nobody wants to buy it here in Spain.Instead of keeping it in garage (during this economical crisis), I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK for a really attractive price.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by a company that has offices in both UK and Spain and in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.
Thank you!

Obviously reckon this must be some sort of a scam but as I have a brother living in Spain could be worth a run to look at (its ok he is a huge body building type and obviously would not bring any money with him). Sent him another e-mail with some questions so will keep you posted on the nonsense.

iv seen that scam when i was looking for my zed and there was a 2006-7 or something for about £7500.

they should be found and arrested! or at least beaten! :P

It gets better here was my second e-mail and their response.

I have a few questions:

My brother lives in Spain and as such can the car be viewed there?
What company is handling the financial part of the deal?
Why do you not sell it back in the UK rather than taking such a hit?
Where and when were the pictures taken?

This deal definately appears too good to be true and I am certainly not up for being scammed with a stolen or dodgy car - I am sure you can appreciate this.

Hello,

I bought this car from UK and it is still registered there so you don't have to pay any import taxes or any other fees. Before I complete shipping I will notarize the bill of sale and this bill will be sent along with the car. Here is the vrm and vin if you need to check the car:
VRM - SJ59 LXC
Due to the fact that i am located outside UK and we can not deal in person,i`ve contacted Yahoo regarding this issue and they told me that they could offer to me a program that is created especially for international transactions that protects both of us.They agreed to supervise this deal.
You will send the funds to Yahoo and they will keep the money until you receive the vehicle and test it.In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their service is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that Yahoo is in possession of the funds during the delivery period.
You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home( i will ship it to your address insured for full value to you ).
If you decide to keep the car, then you will have to authorize Yahoo to release the funds to me, and the transaction is complete. If the vehicle is not as described ( perfect interior, exterior, mechanical condition ), you will be able to send the vehicle back through the same shipping company ( return postage at my expense ), and ask Yahoo to return the money to you.
If you wish to purchase it and agree to these terms i will need you to provide your full name and address. I will then notify Yahoo and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
If you wish to read more about the yahoo service visit http://protection.programs-yahoo.com
I will be waiting for your reply as soon as possible

Thank you in advance

It took 2 mins from sending my e-mail to recieving this so either they type very quickly are they are all standard response nonsense. So apparently he sends me an X6 and then I give him the money - he is clearly pretty damn trusting or must think I am stoopid.......

3.0 Si Anderson - Very dodgy. I heard someone on a radio dial-in on LBC at the end of 2009 talk about a scam with a cheap price and some pay this fee to reserve, pay other fees etc. Definitely sounds like the one you're dealing wuth has a pre-typed responses- useful you pursued to see response. Thanks for letting us know.

Seen this crap a dozen times, not to mention twice that often on ebay......don't even think about it or waste a minute of your time. It is exactly what it looks like.

Been happening about 8 years now. Nice fake Yahoo domain there.

The first listing for virtually every prestige car is an under priced fake with the same story (or variant of).

Report it to Autotrader, they do appreciate it

I have some *very* nice beachfront property in Arizona, if you're interested.

For a quick check go to the Aviva Car Insurance website and get a quote for insurance - like most sites this has a section for the registration number which it checks with DVLA and enters full car details (a bit like the address/post code search) - this costs you nothing and at least would confirm the registration number fits the car. This is by no means a definitive check as anyone could get a registration number from a dealers forecourt and send it to you BUT its a start at checking the validity of the transaction. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge poll....!

I note the seller fails to respond to this request......

Checking the car reg out of interest shows that it is the correct reg for the vehicle but as we all know that means absolutely nowt. i was bored last night and kept it going for a few e-mails more for a laugh so this is probably the last installment as he is not going to respond to me anymore.......

Q. What is the vehicle VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the car?

Hello,

Unfortunately the car is already crated at the shipping company with all documents. However you can run a HPI check with the registration number which i provided on my previous email.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Regards,
Darwin

And my response
So you cannot provide the VIN? I am sure the HPI check is clear but wihout the VIN there is no way to cross reference the HPI check and the actual vehicle sitting there. To be honest all the documents in the vehicle in the shipping container sounds a bit far fetched, so you have absolutely no vehicle documentation that can be viewed? I hope no one steals your container with all your documentation in it or you are up a creek.

This stinks of a scam.....

He didnt respond to this one. These things really piss me off, more for the fact that they think people are stupid enough. I have never heard such nonsense. Think I will report him to Autotrader, wish it could be the police instead.

seen this so many times now that its getting a bit boring. anybody who loooses money on a scam like this due to them thinking its genuine must be completely stupid. Of course people always sell new X6's for 10K......

3.0 Si Anderson - thanks for the update. The response is completely lame I agree. It sounds so very far fetched:
''Unfortunately the car is already crated at the shipping company with all documents.''
You gave them a very good response :)

These guys just take the photos from someone else's advert. Apparently there are whole 'internet cafes' in Nigeria where every single person sitting in there is running these same scams over and over, amazingly it must still work on some people or they wouldn't bother. As above, anyone who falls for it in this day and age should be banned from accessing the internet

Yes I have heard they just sit there scanning genuine ads for photos and details, the trouble is, some people are so hungry for a deal, they convince themselves to go for it, I really do wonder if some folks just deserve what they get, if they go for things like that. it would be different if it was aimed at older people who are more vunerable to these sort of scams, but Granny is not going to be looking for an X6, or maybe I am just being unfair.

What sort of people fall for it?

Greedy, gullible ones. You have to have a tad of sympathy, but it's certainly severely limited.
