Dodgy eBay seller...

I mean it makes it easier for me to pay by Paypal since I don't have to withdraw all that cash in one go. I'm willing to pay by Paypal and I'm not forcing him to take cash, I'm just not willing to pay it all in one go. Yeh the deal is off but even if I did go I'll be sure to go with my husband (who's not very tall, but buff :P ) and who won't take no sh*t...

I've been talking to lws about this deal and frankly it starts to become too much hassle. If the guy does not want to sell it and trust another Z4 owner to pay on arrival in cash then either he is fearful of negotiation at completion time, doesn't want to complete, has damage on the hood, thinks he can get a better price, etc. etc. Talk of fitting is just a red herring. We all know it's a 30 second job and all UK cars are fully hard top ready.

The price was reasonable, not low and given the top needs a respray anyway to match the car I'd call the guys bluff on the basis that you'll pay a deposit by Paypal, drive up and if he wants sit at his pc and complete the transaction by Paypal right there or pay cash. After all a transaction of this size is a lot to justify remotely out of protection and unseen goods.

If the deal fails by mutual agreement there will be plenty more to buy over the next 6 months as people trade in cars return leases etc or simply can't store over Summer.

If you want I can threaten him via e-mail... :poke:

This guy is not only rude and abnoxious but he really sounds dodgy.... surely by taking a paypal deposit and balance on collection he will be better off as his commision to paypal (and ebay!) will be miles less.....

One smells a rat...

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction

One other thing to consider...I know my credit card company really takes care of me. They will dispute a payment if the item is not received or in the proper condition. So if you use paypal...only use the credit card as a means of funding. Then you can have your cc company stop payment to paypal if necessary

My thought bases off of the condition of the top. If you're still on talking terms and wish to pursue the deal, have him qualify 'good condition' i.e. scratches on the paint and inside fabric, rubber cushion tears, etc. You need the hardtop prep kit installed on your car before it can be secured on the b-pillar.

You never know the schedule of someone you're driving to meet. He may not have time to help fit the top so take a bud with ya.

So long as you have negotiated after the deal to pay upon delivery, that supercedes the previous agreement. I have to admit, though, I sense you're not going to think the price is fair once you see the hardtop. You might ask for pictures but suspect that'll push the guy over the edge.

Your bail out plans are agreements made in e-mail and the stated condition of the hardtop. You might try to track down Ebay's condition definitions but that's pretty tough with different types of products.

Good luck!

It dont work like that over here IIRC.

The Credit Card Companies agreement is with PayPal not the seller, so I dont believe this applies.

Correct. You would have no claim back on the cc company under Section 75 of CCA. Any claim having to be made against Paypal and I doubt you get much mileage there unless you could identify a fraud or similar.
