Dodgy braking sensation

Only just really noticed this recently. Had the car serviced with new tyres fitted a while back, not sure if related though. Also just before the service and new tyres I was on a motorway and heard a loud kind of rubbing noise. It caused a vibration through the car, so bad I pulled over. However, when I drove off again the noise and vibration had disappeared. Nothing was picked up during the service which was done just a few days later.Note also that when the vibration was occuring the car was fine to drive, I mean no pulling to one side or anything.

Anyway, the problem is, when I come nearly to a standstill under light braking there's a weird sensation, kind of as if the wheels are egg shaped  . When I roll the car at low speed it's fine however, hence why I beleive it's the brakes. Under hard braking the car feels mostly fine although there was a bit of vibration last week once. So mostly it appears under light braking just before stopping, such as when approaching traffic lights. As the car slows right down it feels as if the brakes are on then off, not constant braking, so the car slows then momentarily surges forward slightly, then slows, then surges slightly. That's why I say it feels like egg shaped wheels, so slows down on the two ends, faster as the longer less angled section rolls.

Any ideas? Wondering if one of the brakes seized a while back and has caused a warped disc? It's not bad so just living with it for the moment.

Sounds to me like residue from the pads on the discs. Worth running them through a cycle of braking hard from 60 to almost zero and back to 60 without stopping. Repeat 3 times then drive a bit to cool them off.

After that I'd be checking everything from tyre pressures, tyre damage, suspension bushes, bearing and even warped discs (although actually they are rare)
