Do you think the Z is under estimated?

Had a complete arse in a new S63 AMG up my arse yesterday, revving and within a few inches. Thought he would try it on. Around a 40 mph corner, pulled up beside me, dark shades - looking "gangsta innit bruv". Didn't look like that when the Z pulled on him. :!:

I think the general consencious is that all Z's are 18i's or that a 2.5 tonne barge is quick... :driving:

P.S well done Wales!

Personally I'll wait until I've shredded you a set of tyres on your 'fettled' one before answering your headline Stuart...

Well done on smoking the chav...

 :driving:

Hoping for 420+ and LSD before you ruin my tyres John

Heavy weight dragster vs slightly lighter dragster.  :poke:

Good work, you got to smoke a chav now and again.

A lot of people look at the Zed & think "BMW's MX5", they then associate the MX5 with a low-power open top sports car and thus the Zed should be that as well... which as us 35i(S) drivers know this isn't always the case.

TL;DR = yes.

No, but looks like everyone else does...
(Especially if you've debadged)

Let's keep it that way, it's nice to dish out surprises every now and then

I think the Z4 is very underrated in terms of performance (especially the 35i/35iS) by other drivers and I like it that way. Unless you are a bit of a BMW fanatic you'd really be hard pushed to know that twin exhausts mean 35i.

A very friendly chap in a C63 AMG gave me a little thumbs up and a wave on a slip road a while back when it became apparent that there was very little in on a slip road (up to NSL only - no doubt the extra HP and Torque would become apparent at higher speeds).

I'm looking forward to eventually getting DPs and JB4!

To people that don't care about cars the Z4 probably comes across as being very fast. Probably because it looks the part.

To you average car person who doesn't read too much into other marques then they usually assume that it's an all show but no go 4 cylinder model.

Most people are still in denial about tuned cars and think it's all one big scam. The phrase "if you could get more power out of it then wouldn't the manufacturer just do it" still sounds like common sense to most!
The idea that a tuned 3 series saloon could leave a stock Ferrari or Lambo is just beyond comprehension for most :P

Tuning cars is nothing new - been doing it for the last 20 years.

However some people underestimate the 4 cylinder variants - and considerable snobbery that a BMW must be a minimum 6 cylinders - however my little 2 Ltr will out perform most none M cars - (or close to 335i/135i/235i/Z35/Z35is etc un modified)

I love this photo my 2 ltr vs an Alpina B5 500BHP

Be interesting at my track times for my next event @ croft - see how its compares through the twisties - not just a straight line

Tbh the only thing that stops me going 4cyl is the noise, it just doesn't give me the OOH that the 6cyl does.

Other than that the 4cyl is more efficient, lighter making further efficiencies and for better handling.

Totally agree....

However the later models have lost there tapping noise that been reported previously - but you do lose the sweet orchestra sound from a straight 6

Nice pic :) What mods/tunes have you done to your 2ltr engine wise to outperform that 500 bhp Alpina?

Just had a bloke in an F type Jag give me a wave as he was coming off a roundabout as I was going onto it, I assume as we both had the roofs down :)

Same, it is a glorious note and I couldn't ever see myself with less than 6 cylinders now. Not only that but the overall tractability of the engine too. It really feels like 1.5 engines when compared to the 4 pot.

Good result vs. the B5 !
