Do you Live in London and Only do City Driving?

but then if i change my driving style and really care about mpg then i should have kept my astra diesel.
I only bought it up to see whether I may have issues (like a faulty O2 sensor, etc).

Also in an ///M and also only get about 18mpg usually driving from home in South London, trying to avoid as much traffic as possible in my schlep to the A4...

Even if you don't believe my MPG it looks to me that you have some sort of sensor/other fault.

19mpg seems very low to me...unless you are driving hard most of the time.

Another point on this...there are a lot of variables involved in city driving. If you want to see if you have a fuel consumption or sensor issue, maybe head to a clear motorway and calculate it over a couple of miles at 70/80mph. I think it's safe to say (having read a lot of threads about mpg) that if you are not getting say 34/35+ in those conditons there has to be something wrong.

This is something that has also bothered me. My 53 plate 2.2 gives me an average of 22MPG. At very best its been on 25-26.

I live in North London and do occasionally drive it through rush hour, but I still think thats a little low?

The best I got over a reasonable dslistance was 46.3...

I doubt this is a true figure, I have a 3.0 and the best I've had is 34 and its sitting at 31 now. I do mostly longer drives.

If you constantly reset your mpg gauge and freewheel or coast or drop your speed etc or hypermile to try and achieve what your doing, your just artificially increasing the mpg. I did this in my new scirocco diesel for a while. You will have moments when the car achieves 200mpg and my average although not really an average was close to
80 on some trips.

Then I thought screw this, let's drive the car as it's intended...50-55mpg on average.

A 3.0 petrol at close to 50mpg unless your hypermiling...no chance! And 20 in urban is more realistic given your stop starting etc. So drive the sportscar as it's intended or maybe get a diesel lol

You can get 45-50MPG to show if you reset all the computers while doing a constant 60 on the motorway, but it's totally meaningless; you are not getting 50 MPG LOL.

I think I had my Z4M claiming 34 MPG on a 40MPH traffic slog up to Manchester, but that by definition makes it totally irrelevant....On the plus side, the 3.0 is definitely more economical than similar sized engines from other makes in my experience, and it's not the end of the world- it's not like we get 8 MPG around town....

Besides, stuff MPG anyway and enjoy it, or buy an Astra TDI :)
