In the UK our burgers are tiny, our fries are called chips and come in little trays not big buckets and 99% of our cars have stick shifts (called gear levers).

Autos are actually a bit of a rarity over here.

You'll find the vast majority of UK and European drivers can handle manual gearboxes

It's fairly rare in the UK to find a driver who can't because, if you take your driving test in a car with a slushbox, you get a licence that is only valid for auto transmission cars.

I don't think that's really true anymore - smaller cars tend to be manuals but, as you move upmarket, cars are more likely to be autos - some luxury cars are very hard to sell second-hand if they have manual transmission

Yep well said - the upmarket Zeds are all autos!

My ex couldn't drive a manual.....I couldn't take the embarrassment. The current missus has to learn how to proficiently heel-toe before I'll propose

I am just curious as to how many of you guys are like me and don't know how to drive a stick shift.

It's easy, just listen to your engine.
I'm good with that. I drive my zed in semi auto all the time. I love it! I just can't practice on anyones manual car. Best practice I got was learning to move 18 wheelers forword and backword at work. I just need practice actually moving the car! :? Until then my man card is revoked.

I can, but drive an auto. My wife failed miserably - and expensively - to learn to drive a manual, so has an auto-only licence. Which is why I have an auto Z4. That she has driven precisely once :headbang:

Only when I'm driving for fun - every day commuting and around town it stays in full auto, just easier.

Learned in a 62 Hillman, don't think they had auto boxes available in those cars 8)

Want to learn to drive stick Xiaxio, get a big old 4x4 and a parking lot . Put it in low range and play...you can't stall them and you have to shift to go faster than walking pace... I taught my wife in a Landcruiser 1 ton pickup, parking lot dividers don't mean anything to those old tanks :D

LMAO yep I know how to dirve a stick shift, but I remember getting stuck on a hill and sitting through 3 red lights back in my first car back when I was learning to.
