Do you get bored of having the roof down?

I do. Today was the first time I can remember putting the roof down this year (for all of about 5 mins!), and probably not had it down more than 5 or 6 times in the last year - I just can't be bothered any more.

Is it just me? I've been driving roadsters for the last 5 years, maybe I'm sick of them? A few years ago I couldn't see myself ever giving up the open-top, but now if the E89 Z4 or SLK came as a coupe again I would have one, don't think I would even consider a folding hard-top one.

Maybe a Cayman next for me, or a 370Z.

Yes and no. I can't say that I am bored with it, bu I do sometimes find having the top down inconvenient since I end up spending quite a bit of time on the phone when in the car, especially when commuting to/from the office (I love bluetooth!). Also, my wife insists on top up driving when she is in the car (the hair thing) :headbang: So while I really do enjoy it, I find that I use it less and less :( Also, a coupe has many advantages (lighter, less cost, fewer parts to break, etc.), so like you, I may end up in a coupe next time.

No, i still enjoy top down motoring ever since my first experience of it about 4 years ago. It feels liberating, and i also seem to drive in a more spirited manner  Today was the umpteenth time the top has been down this year, just cant wait for the warmer weather to arrive :D

I love having the top down.. As soon as we get some sun and 10 degrees Im putting it down... Very limited usage of it here in Norway though :(

The one time i will get bored with top down motoring is if we continually get cr*p weather in the UK :headbang:

I wonder if it's anything to do with the fact we've hardly had a days sunshine in 2 years, mate? Fingers crossed we'll get a few weeks of summer this year, then see how you feel.

Personally I couldn't give a rats ass whether I have a convertible or not when the weather is crap, but with the Zed I don't feel like I am giving up much by having one... I don't need rear seats and the zed had plenty of boot space, so where's the problem?

If I felt it was a compromise then I would change, but I don't see any negatives (at the moment)

NormStrm, maybe it is and I haven't realised :oldman:

Maybe just me then, wonder if I'll every get the urge back again :idunno:

I never get bored of it and perhaps that's because I have the hardtop in Winter, so look forward to my 'second' Z4 in the Spring. British weather does not seem good, but it makes the best of those good days

I have had convertibles for 15 years now. But I always have a non-convertible as well, so as it is not a daily driver, I have the top down whenever it is not raining.

Is that your only car Mike?

sp3ctre, you could be right about the weather. Keeping the roof up is right, and it doesn't bother me and you don't lose out at all, I was just thinking about next time I change cars I probably wouldn't be too bothered about getting a roadster.

I suppose it goes back a while, even back on Z4um when Senwar first said he was getting a Z4MC after having a TT roadster then a Z4 I did wonder about not being able to drop the roof, but IIRC he wasn't too bothered about it, that's how I'm feeling now.

No I have my Micra now too and now I split my driving up and in a month I'm doing about 1400 miles in the Micra and about 900 in the SLK, but even at that although I always really enjoy getting back into the SLK, I never get the urge to go roof down.

:scratchhead:

Exactly...and as far as I am concerned when the top is up I have a coupe... :P
Might sound a little strange but I really like that the top lining is black. I know that is not an option on most cars but I really like an all back interior. Seems to reduce reflected light and glare... :)

Nah, I doubt I'll tire of having the roof down! That's part of what adds to the driving experience for me - not having to go flat out to get my thrills from driving.

Anyway, the top's that well insulated that I don't notice it overly noisy when the roof's up compared to other cars I've owned.
