Do you drive your Z in the winter? How do you prepare it for the cold season?

Here's my 2003 Z4 2.5i. Just prepped it for the winter by coating the chassis in cavity wax, installing the hardtop and fitting new Nokian Snowproof tyres to my winter steel wheels. What else do you do to prepare your Z4 for the winter?

I just drive mine around like I would in summer. Car is toasty inside even with just a soft top on, in fact I quite like to take it down and sit in the heat bubble I can create using the blowers and heated seats when its sunny. Same wheels and tyres as summer. All good :thumbsup:

I absolutely love driving with the roof down in the winter. Heated seats on, heater on full blast, warm jacket, gloves and a hat... all these ingredients make for such a fun ride. Plus, all the looks from people who think I'm absolutely crazy are hilarious🤣🤣

No, I don't wash it off. I took my car to a body shop, where they took the wheels, inner wings and bumpers off. They coated the whole thing in wax and then assembled it back together. Should be great for rust protection.

I don't think washing off waxoyl is achievable tbh.
Takes days to get it off your hands, let alone out of a chassis!
Almost guaranteed to get the old advisory for brake lines covered in grease etc.

Erm, I took my car to get the yearly inspection done right after having it coated in wax. The inspector had nothing bad to say about it and he told
me that what I did is good for the car. Maybe it's different in the UK, I don't know.

Our testers are not permitted to do much other than a visual check, so if the pipes are covered in anything they sometimes cover themselves by advising they were unable to check properly.
 
I do not plan on driving mine in the winter but if the temp climbs up enough , I will be tempted to take it on a run around the town , thats a given.
 
I just drive i5t like it's summer. It's actually pretty good in the snow with Michelin Sport AS tires.
 
It gets driven as usual, roof down, heater on and heated seats on number two. it’s lovely.
 
Tucked up in bed for the winter with just brief warm up runs to keep away moisture and stop things seizing
 
No z4 at the moment. :( Often used to take her out in the winter but only on dry salt free days. Then back in the warm cosy garage. Mrs G drives her Mx5 daily and it lives on the drive. We have had the underside wax oiled. Mx5's are nothing like as weather protected underneath as Z4's out of the factory though.
 
Just took mine for a run, sun is out, its a mild 8 or 9 degrees, perfect! I would be gutted looking out of the window right now knowing its sitting SORN somewhere when the weather is perfect for it.

If you’re Argyll Andy you don’t change your sartorial dress code…still T shirt and shorts…roof down off course… :thumbsup:
 
Wife and I went out for a run to the moors today, roof down, very windy when we stopped. 11 to 12 c. lovely :thumbsup:

Of course, but this one has a heated steering wheel and that makes all the difference :wink:
