Do i reset after yearly oil change

Hello!

Im planing to do oil changes every year before i store the car in the winter.
Do i reset the oil change when i do this extra oil changes? Just thinking if thats resets everything and moves the service time forward. then i will never come to Inspection 1 and 2. cos i will reset it before.

No idea weather to reset or not but would have thought it better to do the oil change after it comes out of storage then you are driving it on fresh oil... Don't really know if it will make much difference but seems to make sense in my head to do it that way round

I'd say that, if you're just doing additional oil changes yourself, don't reset the service indicator but keep a record of what you've done and when you've done it

This way you can let the service counter countdown (or observe the two-year interval if that comes sooner) and you can keep to the Oil/Inspection 1/Oil/Inspection 2 regime (plus 2-yearly brake fluid changes) at dealers/indys and keep the service history correct

If you're not worried about the service history and don't plan to use dealers/indys for servicing at all then it's entirely up to you how you handle things

If you're not doing the mileage then reset every other, so: Oil+R / Oil / Insp+R / Oil / Oil+R

I put the interim changes in the book.

I would reset and keep the receipts for the oil/filter with the service history to show you did it. then make a note in the service book (yes its not a stamp but you can prove you did it)
the reset only effects the oil service. Brakes and other items etc are uneffected

I want to do a oil change every year by My self, but i still want to service the car at the dealer. For service 1 and 2 or whats it called.
I do save the recipt and write it down in the service bok. That is verry important to me!

Now the car says its about 21 700 km to next oil service, but im going to change the oil in a couple of months anyway before i store it for the winter.

Then if i reset it when its about 20 000 km for example Will i just push the inspektion forward all the time?

Maby its best not to reset it?

Anybody with a boat knows to change the oil prior to storage. That way the old oil, complete with all the crap and acids, doesn't get a chance to eat the inside of your engine, amongst other things, over winter.

As for recording the activity in the service book, up to you.

If you reset every time then you will end up needing an inspection every 2 years - in my mind that's a big waste of money. Have a look at the inspection schedule, there is not much on it you can't do yourself.

Since it has only gone 40 000 km and all the other services has been Done by the dealer i want to continuing that

I just want to change the oil before i store it.

Then it lookes like i Should not reset it.

I do something very similar to you
- I keep dealer service history for all the scheduled inspections and oil services
- I do additional oil changes in between the dealer inspections / oil services

I don't want to make my service book look 'odd' by writing in oil services that have been done outside the dealer network so I record all additional work on a spreadsheet that I would be happy to pass on with the car - the spreadsheet isn't just for oil changes as it also includes dates/mileages of all part replacements and modifications to the car

At the end of the day, most buyers are happy with a service book that shows a full dealer (or good indy) service history at the correct times/mileages - anything over and above that is a bonus

Exactly! Thats how i plan to do it.
Then i Will not reset it so the "timer" can keep counting down.

I did change the break fluid on the car since it havent been changed for over 3 years. I did reset that timer and it went from 2.13 to 9.14...... Dont really understand that!
I tought it Should count 2 years forward from the change........

Anyone ?
