Do I really need 24 Valves!?

Ok.... It's been a while since I've been on, but yet again, I need some support.

I've finally decided to bring my car over to BMW and see what they have to say about by cars occasional misfiring. I've been doing my own diagnostics and when it first started, I replace all 6 plugs and it stayed in cylinder 3. I've moved the coils around, twice, and it still stayed on cylinder 3.

BMW decided to move 2 of my fuel injectors around and guess what. Still on cylinder 3.

Well Mr. Kaide, we would like to replace your valves, but oh yeah, over the years BMW has updated them and we cant replace just the ones on cylinder 3, we need to do all 24 of them. That would be 9.7 hours of labor and we need to remove the cam shafts to do this.

11321748884 - the valves they want to put in. quoted $38 each. ($27.10 from getbmwparts.com)
Whole thing $2500 to do.

Well, being that my car is drivable, I drove it home.

So my question, do I really need to replace all 24 of them? Do they really need to remove the camshafts? is 9.7 hours ridiculous?

Thanks in advance, see you guys out there! - Kaide

I'd need convincing that an ocasional misfire is valve related. (compression test, etc.) but I would expect it to be continuous. If it is btw you run the risk of wrecking the engine if you continue to drive it by burning out the valve and needing a lot more work doing

Can't comment if you need all 24 but frankly if I had the engine stripped so much I'd do them all since most of the cost is labour

Lot more diagnostic work for me before a valve change but agree with CJ if it needs doing then do the lot.
