Do I need a service?

Sorry for the somewhat basic post.

I do pretty low miles in my Z, and the service indicator on the dash is something like 2500 from a Inspection 1 being due, however I just realised the car has not been serviced in around 2 years - I assume I'm rigth in thinking it should be done via the dash or every 2 years at least right?

Oil change and brake fluid changes as a minimum every 2 years regardless of mileage.
After that wait for the mileage for the full service I

I might as well do the inspeciton one now rather then. Will ring BMW for a price and then decide if I'll use them or Hallmark in Maldon.

the indicator will not flash up to warn of time related interval for oil, but will do for brake fluid.

If you do low mileage no point in advancing the Service 1 by 2500 miles ad you'll just waste money and bring the next 2 year interval xx months closer.

Service I is mileage based, not timed, so you are wasting 2500 miles for no benefit. Also, there is no benefit in having both oil / brake fluid changed and Insp I at the same time instead of doing two visits (with low mileage that could be 6 months anyway).

Yes - but you could state that you dont want that though.

If the dealer won't do this, and I'm guessing they won't then I would get the Inspec 1 done early, which is why I did mine @ 4 years instead of just oil otherwise it works out more expensive.

True, but why would a dealer refuse it though? I declined the cabin filter change this time and they did not care, even though it is part of the oil change routine.

You can always ask the dealer to do a service less certain parts (oil, plugs, etc). Remember you'll have the book stamped to prove you changed the oil and brake fluid 2500 miles or so earlier.

Micro filter isn't as important as oil, OK in this instance we are talking 2,500 miles but the difference could be a lot more, and if they don't stamp the book right then the fact the oil wasn't changed could be missed.

If you had Inspection 1 last time then this time it will be Inspection 2, and vice versa. The service book will say which one was last.

How many miles, that usually gives it away?

Coming up to 65000. Service book is nit really clear. Was done by previous owner by a Nissan garage. They just ticked everything.

Ah OK, well almost certainly be Inspection 2 for that mileage, unless there were services done early.

Which is the most expensive one

Ok well I'm just worried my car has had the same oil in it for 2 years, bar the odd top up. I used to service my old car annually regardless of mileage (3k usually). Im personally a bit of a service type, i.e when I go see a car I ensure it has be serviced correctly according to the makers guidlines for time/mileage and such.

STILL waiting for a price from BMW, even though they have phone me twice (to ask if I prefer email or phone quote) and an email also to confirm the reg.......not the most swift/impressive service. (Cooper Chelmsford). Hallmark have quoted me £200 for a Insepction 1, very good value it seems!

Im just concered about the classic 'dealer history' - I know it means nothing to most, but my car has had all BMW dealer services except for its inspection 2, so Im debating paying extra to keep it to 90% BMW. As I say I know it makes no differecne to most people.

If Inspec 1 is on £200 I would do it, guessing they will want £150 for Oil Service and it keeps your service book nice and tidy when you come to sell.

I don't get this. The service is not due so why pay for it? Get the oil and brake fluid done and book stamped.
Even if you have the service you'll still need to pay the extra for brake fluid change that will be £50 to £100

Ah well each to their own preferences.

90% BMWSH is no better than 10% BMWSH. Once it's gone outside the dealer network then you can't say 'FULL BMWSH' anymore, and some people get hung up on it.

I still do interim oil services, but my service history doesn't show this (although I tend to keep receipts for air/oil filters from BMW).
