Do Hexagon pick prices out a hat ?

It will be interesting to see if the gulf in prices between the Z3M Roadster and Z3M Coupe are replicated with the Z4M's.

A quick scan of Pistonheads shows that even relatively tidy, low mileage Z3M Roadsters can be had for £8k. In fact the dearest of the 6 on there at the moment is only £8,250 (52k miles) and there is a 41k miler for £7,495. The Z3MC looks a little more complex. Clearly there is a big premium sought for the S54-engined version. The cheapest S54 was £12,700 but it did have 108k miles. The dearest examples were Munich Legends - they had two, one at 23k and another "coming soon" at £21k. The non-S54 engine cars were a lot cheaper but still way above the Z3MR prices. There was only one below £10k and that had over £100k miles. The rest were typically between £10-12k.

As there is no distinction in the Z4M's, on engine type, predicting prices should be a little more straightforward. I'd expect the Z4MR prices to fall to a level of around £10k and from there to stop depreciating further, unless they have stratospheric mileage or are in poor condition (i.e. Cat C/D etc.). I suspect that there will be a little less distinction between higher and lower mileage cars than you might expect with the Z4MC, simply because the Z4R shape is much more ubiquitous than the Coupe and so is seen as more common (even though the Z4MR numbers registered are only slightly higher than the Z4MC). However as Kev Shore's old car and Stuart's have illustrated, ultra low mileage Z4MR's will command a hefty premium.

The Z4MC is showing signs that depreciation has largely bottomed out already for lower mileage, well maintained cars, with the right history. I can't honestly say the prices have changed much at all in the last 6 months. I've said before on several occasions that there will be quite a large premium to be paid if you want a low mileage example, because there are precious few of them around. I reckon at least 50% will have >50k miles on them now. The higher mileage cars still probably have a bit of depreciation left in them but tidy, well maintained cars with a good history I don't think will fall much lower than £12k.

Hexagon are just down the road from me and i have to say they do a lovely service to the second car market! Keep those prices high boys!

They know full well every month or so a 50 year old gent will stroll in from Hampstead with crisis written across his forehead and more money than sense.

The prices have not changed at all much in the last 12 months. Low numbers probably being the main factor. I cant see coupe or roadster examples with less than 40k in good condition not selling quickly :)

Pretty good actually, bit of a hot rod feel. It's got a really lovely engine, creamier than the S54 engine, a really nice engine that sounds lovely and looks like something out of a spitfire (not the car!). I chased my mated around the Alps in the car, them in bike engined kit cars, me fully loaded in the Z3 with the missus, and apart from overheating brakes we could keep them in sight. Fast enough to have a lot of fun in, but no traction \ stability control so need to keep on your toes.

Sorry for thread diversion...

I think that sums up what I think will happen - I think the difference between Z4MR and Z4MC will remain closer than it has with the M Roadster/Coupe - one reason for this is that the M Coupe was the only coupe sold in the UK making them quite unique.

There were only123 S54 Z3MCs sold in the UK. Some will have been "killed" in action, and many have been well-used, therefore there's only a relatively small pool of low(ish) mileage S54 around today. I've heard of a couple of the better ones being exported, so there's only a smallish group of the higher priced examples.

This S54 Z3MC on pistonheads: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z3m-coupe/bmw-z3m-coupe-2001-s54/1195289 is currently for sale privately, with 58,100miles for £18,750 and this price doesn't seem out of the way in the current market. The same car was bought from Munich Legends in March 2009 with 47,000miles for £13k. This would suggest, to me at least, that the S54 Z3M has now reached genuine "classic" status.

P.S. I've just noticed that this is my 1,000th post. :D
