Do crossed drilled brake discs crack

I am looking to replace my brake discs and am considering cross drilled, but looking at various forum web sites it seems a common problem that they are prone to cracking around the holes. Anyone experienced this ? would appreciate your comments

ive fitted mtec drilled & grooved disc's to my last 3/4 old cars in the past & never had any problems

Thanks for your input . My Problem is that Mtec do not offer sports discs for the E89. The only discs available are Tarox or Zimmermann , possibly in the states there may be some. Unless anyone knows different

I've als used mteconprevious cars with no issues.

Always a good price too.

Have you thought about emailing them with the pcd and size etc as there might be another make of vehicle that uses the same size?

I had a drilled disc on a Honda motorbike (oem) and that cracked from the edge of one of the drillings, I don't think it's common though :?

Yes done that and also spoke to them, problem is front discs are 330mm dia and they do not make this dia.

Just remember you'll need to bump up your pads' temp tolerance as you'll be losing an awful lot of swept disc surface area.. that means you'll be running the brakes hotter.

Personally I'd not want to run a cross-drilled disc which isn't floating or semi-floating.

I fitted drilled and grooved discs to my 23i.
Shouldn't have bothered, visually can't see much of them for the style of wheel.
The noise they make is like stopping a Boeing 737.
Stopping power I would say less, obvious I suppose less surface area!

Interesting ! I must say the more I look into it the more the case for OEM type discs comes forward. Like I said 330mm discs (front) are not easily available Tarox are price-wise out of the picture and Zimmerman have mixed reviews.

Thanks for your valued opinion
