I have an issue and am pretty sure my DME is broken? It showing all the signs:

Took it to BMW who were so helpful and scanned it then referred my to an auto electrician!

Not starting (takes about 5-10 seconds)
Fuel pump issues (sounds like it staying on)
Odd warning lights illuminating (TMPS, handbrake, traction control)
Gauges cutting out intermittently
Climate control failures

Amongst other issues. I am at the end of my tether. I love my car. Oddly it seems to drive fine???

:( :o

Some of those faults are classic issues with the CanBus system, ie; broken or shorted out High or Low CanBus wire.
Has any work been done to the car prior to these faults showing up?

When BMW scanned it did they tell you the fault codes? Or did the auto electrician do the same? You need the codes for anyone to help with diagnosing these issues.

Unlikely to be a DME failure on a 23i..pretty bombproof..as suggested more likely to be other things giving false errors elsewhere…decent code reader and its results are required..

Could be a fault with the instrument cluster aka Kombi..

Probably need a decent bmw Indy or auto electric guy who really knows BMWs

Like others i would check battery, early faults like air con going wack seem to be battery faults.
My Foxwell obd reader can see battery percent charge rate with historical data.
Some faults seem to cascade tp produce other false readings.
Start with new battery.
Cancel codes.
See what comes up.
I could not run my car without the Foxwell reader, saved me thousands.
