DLV Exhaust Back box

Have you heard one alongside some others? If not I'd strongly recommend hearing them all before you buy a DLV box...

I like mine, which is the "low fat" version. My son has the usual "full cream" version. Both sound good and look OEM imo.
They seem to be tightening up the MOT for noise these days - might be worth doing some research on noise levels before you throw money at it?
From a major fail on a car I know:-
Exhaust noise is clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle fitted with a silencer in average condition (8.1.1 (a))

I didn't think I needed to change my exhaust but after seeing that advert earlier and listening to the Youtube videos - temptation got the better of me!
Think I will stick with stock - will cancel this post.

I wouldn’t worry to much about the mot stations, I had a mk3 mx5 with a decat manifold, 200 cel cat and BBR super sport backbox. It passed its test every time.
Also my z4 just went through in March with a backbox delete.

My earlier post showing the Exhaust noise failure was lifted directly from an online fail certificate of a car known to me and I also believe the new regs came into force May '19 - It was classified as a Major Fail
I hope you continue to pass every time but it seems like this is a newly introduced category and probably in an effort to stifle non standard kit.

You must inspect:
exhaust silencers
under-bonnet noise deadening material fitted as original equipment – you do not need to inspect this for Class 3 vehicles
You must use your judgement to assess exhaust noise:
during the emissions test for the vehicle
rev the engine to around 2,500rpm or half the maximum engine speed if this is lower on vehicles not subject to an emissions test
Exhaust noise from the vehicle must not be unreasonably above the noise level you'd expect from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.
Defect Category
Exhaust noise levels in excess of those permitted
Major
Any part of the noise suppression system:
insecure
Major
likely to become detached
Dangerous
And if they want to be really awkward they could enforce this :-

Short version: It is an offence to modify an exhaust system so as to generate more noise than it did from the factory. Obviously this is open to some intepretation, but unless you've got some way of proving that the car was type approved with the exhaust that is fitted (i.e. unmodified) then you're probably on a hiding to nothing.

When I posted the original post, one had just sold for £100 - so looking for something similar.
And keep my original exhaust in case I don’t like it!

Oh OK Saj, I must have missed that
. I've been considering a DLV back box ever since I've had the car. Just trying to justify it really :wink: . Might be worth a chat with him though as I've heard he'll put things back to standard if you're not happy.I have a DLV box, no issues with MOT - it's not that loud compared with something like an AMG!
