DIY Tinted windows

Hi

I bought a roll of film to tint the small triangular fixed windows on my E86 and possibly the boot lid. But I've found, cutting the film to the right size and getting it tucked in to be really tricky.

I found a website this morning that sells pre cut film for the E86. 3 pieces that would would cover the fixed windows and boot lid.
I fully expect to get a professional to tint my car would be close to £200...maybe more. The 3 pre cut pieces are only £35 and there are various levels of tint available.

Has anyone ever done DIY tinting and/or used a site selling pre-cut film?

If you’re buying on the roll. It’s best to lay it over the outside of the window you want to tint and cut the shape out. Makes life easier than trying to do it inside the car.
Then it’s a case of clean glass and spray of soapy water slide the film into place and squeeze out the water

Tried that.
It's my first time attempting it so that'll be a factor. but the outside glass is bigger than the inside. Outside has a black border and dots. Inside, the trim covers part of that border.
I'll maybe try again tonight.....need to make more room in the garage to make cutting easier. I think I'll get a piece of card and use that as a template....I suspect that'll be the best way.

When making the cut don’t go right up to the edge. Come in an inch or so.
You have the black surround of the glass to take up some room inside

yeah...I think I need a template for it to work.
Boot will be easier I think because it's much better access

Remember to shrink the film on the rear window first, using a heat gun, as it's not flat glass, or you'll crease the tint when trying to fit it

Pre cut tint film kits are pretty bad. Just pay a pro.
