DIY glass replacement in iPhone6s

Had anyone tried and successfully replaced the glass screen on an iphone6?

Shattered mine yesterday - feck!

There's plenty of guides and step by step videos with eBay parts coming to about £10-30.
This vs getting apple to do it at potentially £150.

Looks moderately tricky but with right tools and careful handling looks reasonably straight forward!

Depend on whether you are out of warranty or not? If you're still in, I'd get Apple to do it.

If not, I did it on a 4S and it was fairly easy.

Yep, also done on a 4s. Takes a while and very fiddly, but straight forward.
You might want to check local shops - we have one that replaces screens for around £50-£80 IIRC.

6s have a layer of adhesive that sticks the screen down

I'd also avoid all those local shops. Reliability with 3rd party parts is very much hit and miss.

Plus a 6s is still £99 from an Apple store.

Paid apple about £130 for my 6s plus recently. Could of brought the parts off ebay for about £75 but for the sake of £50 it was better to get apple to do it while I waited.

How about this 5s i ruined last week ? Repairable :? Left it on van roof , drove off , remembered 10 mins up the road  wasn't far from where id set off but its quite a busy road & appears much thinner now :D bank cards survived

For £10-30 I guess you are looking at just replacing the front glass not the entire screen, it is more difficult as it's glued to the lcd.

Replacing the complete screen is easier but at £70 - 100 for a non genuine screen you might as well pay £130 and let Apple do it.

I have replaced the complete screen on an iPhone 4 and 6 following iFixit guides, which was ok, but I would not fancy separating and re-gluing the front digitiser.

You can find glass replacement kits cheaply online and they include new glass, a suction cup tool for removing your screen, pentalobe and Phillips-head screwdrivers, and prying tools. However, replacing the glass is much more difficult than replacing the entire touchscreen, because you will need to separate the glass from the touchscreen and then glue the new piece of glass onto the old touchscreen. That's not easy!

A touchscreen replacement kit - which includes much more than just the glass, but is theoretically easier to install - is not much cheaper than Apple charge for replacement, so you might as well take your phone to Apple.

Hmm, cheers.
Yes the replacement screen doesn't include the touch part which is glued to screen - so effectively a sealed unit - crap.

...off to the apple shop then :(

Good news bad news...

Took it to Apple Store had to wait to be seen but screen replaced within 3 hrs so just picked it up after work, £99 which was better than I was expecting, and working so far.

Bad news, some traffic warden fecker ticketed my car even though it had a sticky parking ticket on it! Tw4t, will need to write a letter to appeal - not even an online appeal!

Don't forget the screen protector - I use inToro, which are excellent

One of these saved my wife's iPhone screen, the phone was dropped face down onto the road, the protector smashed, the actual screen was completely untouched, the only thing with them is the protectors are quite thick which can make the fingerprint reader a bit hit & miss sometimes.

I'd always advocate getting Apple to repair the screens, the price is sensible plus it's warranted, also once you've had a non-genuine screen fitted there's no way to go genuine again as Apple wont touch it, as a poor couple behind us at the genius bar found out when they wanted a screen repair only to be told that the one already fitted was non-genuine, I'm not sure how they could tell though.

Good result on the phone. Appeal should be straight-forward with a copy of the parking ticket and the 'offense' ticket showing the times on each.

Yep picked up a Belkin version invisiglass.
Not sure how effective it will be but better off using something than going naked I reckon
