DIY cruise problem

I've been trying to fit cruise control to my E86, using the srhutch loom, and following Usel's DIY cruise control stalk instructions.
I've got the loom fitted okay(I think), and have made the wires for the stalk, and have fitted it, but it's not working.
Stupidly, I unplugged the LCM before I disconnected the battery, so I now have an airbag error light, so I was wondering if when this error is showing the cruise is disabled?
I'm going to go through and check my cables as well, and give my regular garage a ring on Tuesday and see if I get them to clear it.

I got the airbag error before connecting the loom. I had a few minutes spare, so was getting things ready for installation, so had just removed a few trim bits, and unplugged the LCM without thinking. I then had to move the car, so plugged it back in before turning it on to mine, although I may not have plugged it back in properly. The light came on when I started the car to move it.

I’m open to correction but I think the only thing that should happen if you moved the car with the lcm disconnected would be a mileage tamper dot-

It’s possible of course you have dislodged something elsewhere

I’d get your codes read

How do you know the cruise doesn’t work? Have you tried it? You know you don’t get a light as you would in another BMW?

Yep, I've tried it. I'm not completey happy with one of the plugs, so I'm going to redo that. Also the cruise control unit I got, although the correct part number, has a very slightly different orientation on one of the pads you need to solder to, so That might need a check, although I think I've done the correct side.

I’ll be doing exactly this (srhutch loom and Usel cruise control box) probably next weekend. I’ve previously fitted a srhutch loom and a genuine cruise, which went fine. I’ll post how it goes.

The oblong chip on the back of the board. Does it have a code starting with CTCT?

Just had a look, it has.

The board looks like this:

It's slightly different to yours. I've noticed the part number is different on the sticker on the back, so wondering if I've just got the wrong one, maybe they changed them, as mine is still for an X3/X5, e53/e83. I've just gone through and checked the connections I've made, and resoldered onto the pads, but it's still not working.

On another note, my airbag light has gone out!

Do you have a multimeter?

That yellow wire looks like it could be bridging over.

Set the multimeter on continuity, put one prong on the yellow wire and the other prong on the otherside of the half moon. There should not be a connection.

You have the correct circuit board, I have used them from Range Rovers and all model BMW's. The only one which didn't work was an early e38 one and it didn't have the CTCT chip.

To make sure you have soldered onto the correct half of the moon, set the multimeter to continuity, put one prong on the black earth and the other prong on one side of the moon. If you make a circuit then that side is the earth, you need to solder onto the side that doesn't make a circuit.

I have resoldered them all and checked they're not bridging, I'll check that I'm doing it to the correct side, thanks for the help. :)

They are all on the correct sides, still can't get it to work. I'll double check I've installed the loom correctly on the car tomorrow, but I'm sure I did. I guess there's always the possibility one of the parts I've got is faulty, as they are second hand.

Just double checked that I've fitted the arhutch loom okay, and pretty sure I have, so I'm wondering if either the cruise control unit or stalk are faulty.

Hang on, just thinking about this, as I spoke to Srhutch awhile ago.

Have you not made the extension lead and you are plugging the cars cruise connector straight into the cruise unit?

The extension lead I refer to is the one with the 3 wires, green/white/blue.

I'm connecting it all together like this:

That's a stupid mistake to make!! Note to self, most tread instructions better. I'll go and give it a go plugged in correctly and report back.
