Display Not Always "popping up"

Hi

In the last couple of weeks my satnav/display unit that "pops up" from the dash, well, it not always "popping up", couple of times I have got in the car and started it and it,s not popped up, I can lift it manualy, then its fine for a few days, then it does it again, a few days later. It did do this a couple of months ago then stopped :?

Is there something I can do?, i assume it has a small electrical motor? or is it a sign of it being on its way out?

I do have warranty (not BMW), but its one of those intermitent problems, that you can be sure will not happen when I take it in.


anyone else had this?

from what i know it's the stepper motor playing up.

I've tried to find just a motor without any luck, only option i know is to replace the screen. they come up on ebay for around £100
 
I have a 2005 mod, 3.0i. Had a similar problem a year ago. My satnav/display unit sometimes did not pop up, or if it did, it did not go the whole way up. It stopped in some kind of half position, and I had to manually help it the last part into fully open position. The car was at that time still under warranty, and the complete screen was replaced by my local dealer :D .
 
Bugger, looks like I have exactly the same problem. Sometimes, randomly the screen is not coming back fully, sometimes is working alright. Slightly annoying now. Before I go ask BMW , is there anything I could check?
