Dismantling standard seats.

I'm in the process of buying some heated, electric sports seats to replace the non heated manual seats I currently have. They are at the other end of the country to me, and as my only car is a E85, getting them is going to be a bit difficult without borrowing a mates car. I have the idea of fitting the new seats and dismantling my ones to store in the boot / on the passenger seat for the trip home.

Do the seat backs come off easily or is it a right faff? I'll possibly need to take the bases off too in order for them to all fit in my car.

Easy enough to remove the back but trickery to get the loom out to totally separate.

I did this exact thing and simply hired a van for half a day as it's impossible to get 2 extra seats in a Zed

if your going alone you could remove your passenger seat before leaving and put your new one in when you get there as its only 4 bolts (dead easy) Then it may be possible to dismantle the remaining seat and put it in the boot, but i've no idea if even one seat in bits will fit!

That would trip the airbag light as the seatbelt pretensioner would be disconnected

Surely not worth the hassle and costs, time to dismantle and risk of damage to the car.
A quick check shows a small van from a leading national company is £33/day. Less for half day at others.
To me it's a no brainier

Does make more sense and its what I would be doing. Especially when you consider some of the cost will be clawed back in fuel savings

Im sure you won't regret it. Out of interest I looked at Enterprise who have branches all,over the uk who came in at £33 for any weekday
You could get a van fiesta or corsa for £22 if you search a bit, but might be tight..

There is a van company near me that'll do a ford transit connect, one of the little ones for £40 for the day. I'm sure the seats will fit in that.

Now onto the tricky part...sourcing a wiring loom for the seats

Be prepared for the hernia you'll get when you try lifting one of those seats :lol: they are unbelievably heavy!

Good call re. The van hire. There's no way they'll fit in a Z4. The seats are actually very bulky and awkward to move around.
