Hey all,
Got my Z4 in autumn last year and, while I love it, I’ve been chasing some issues since. Misfires and lean codes to begin with - so changed the plugs and coils and swapped over the intake manifold with one available from forum vet Zedebee. This made some improvement but didn’t fix, so onto new injectors I went. Further improvement (perceived only, perhaps?), but no fix. Misfire codes prevalent when I booted it, only cylinders 1-3 and always in combination P0301, P0302 and P0303, and Cat system below threshold, both banks P0420 and P0430
I’m booked in at RBM in a couple of weeks for a full diag as I’m basically at the end of my ability, and this weekend went to do an oil service and fix a leaky headlight washer (still not sorted that - leak is fixed but they aren’t firing still!) and while fiddling thought I’d take a look at my O2 sensors, remove and refit, why not.
Dust / detritus visible through the O2 sensor hole in the bank 1 exhaust manifold. Crap. Ordered a borescope on amazon and had a looksy today, which confirmed what I thought: that it is extremely kaput!
Pics below, and to get to the point, I’m seeking advice please. Should I drive the car, at all, with the cat in this condition? Or would it be madness if I did, or is it absolutely fine so long as I don’t boot it? It generally drives fine if I’m cautious, but I don’t want to cause any further damage to anything other than the already shagged cat.
And, what do you reckon the different “stuff” is in there which looks so different to what is clearly the chunks of Cat?
Cheers all
