A mate of mine spotted this today:

What do you guys think? Interesting exposed kidney grilles.

... and what do you guys suspect is underneath the round circle on the front of the bonnet??

they look nice in the flesh, I saw one in Soper week ago in black with the same disguise on it.

just for your information, the car in the photo is a 2 ltr diesel in a £30 tax bracket registered on 17th Jan.

I like the lights / kidney combo a lot - looks v different to the new 3 series just launched. Don't see the point of the disguise lines though, very minimalist. As for under the round bit on the bonnet... An ///M roundel for the new M diesels, just to wind everyone up ? :D or could it be an Alpina variant ? Rambling now...

How do you get this information? :)

What do we reckon on the rims? 18s or 19s? I'm thinking 18s, but looks are deceptive...

I'm not sure about the grills. Will need to stare at them for a while longer

Adamski,

just checked with road tax website :P you can configure this shape BMW from now on their official website, the car is due for release on 11th Feb (I read somewhere).

The grilles were my issue as well, but I think it's one of them things that grows on you.

I was at the launch event at Vines BMW on Tuesday and they had a very similar specification car in the showroom, as shown in this photo.

According to the spec sheet, they are 18" wheels. I was very pleased to see that they had chosen an interesting colour (i.e. not grey, silver or black) but then I heard that BMW had decided not the dealer, which explains everything.

Luckily I stayed to the end of the evening as I was offered the chance of a test drive in a similarly "disguised" model. It's nonsense really, since although they had covered over the badges it's clearly the new 3 series. That not withstanding the test drive was good (320D auto, black with red leather - nice) but the ride, whilst improved, is still not what you'd call smooth and the diesel still rattles away annoyingly. It'll no doubt be the popular choice though.
