Tried to replace my M discs today and started to remove the two screws holding the disc on. They won't budge. Tried soaking in freeing fluid and used an impact driver but I think I've just rounded the hex hole. Any ideas? Heat may be next but I'm not sure I can get enough heat into the local area given it has a huge heat sink attached :wink:

As the studs are now of no future use I'd just drill the tops off and replace them with new ones.After you have drilled the tops off( and removed the disk ) you will be able to soak and or heat them a lot easier, if your lucky you will be able to get the remainder of the studs out with a pair of mole grips if not you will need a stud extracter like this

I've left this side soaking for a bit longer, the other side came out without any issues. Will try again later or it's drill time.

Before you drill it our try a dot punch towards the edge of the head. Tap it to make a decent indent to get grip, then angle the punch and hammer to drive it anticlockwise.

Nothing to lose as you can still get the drill out if it doesn't work (but nearly always does).
 
I've seen this guys clips before, his tip on re-fashioning the hex bolt may be worth a try

The extractor Dave linked to requires an accessible shaft to clamp to. To extract flush fasteners, you need something more like this. It's well worth having these in your toolbox, easy to use and the need will recur once in a while.
 
I had the same problem ! Used a impact driver & came off no probs. Try using a centre punch as stated above,might work. :thumbsup:
 
I took the drill to them in the end, neither would budge. I used extractors to get the remains out and have re-tapped the thread. Just need to get some small M8 bolts now, which I found on ebay. However it will be a day or two now before the car is back on the road :x

For future reference, I banged in a torx bit with a hammer was a real tight fit but got them out without too much fuss.

Mashed the bolts though so you will still need new ones...
