Discs and Pads

Noticed a vibration under harder braking on the driver side front. This came up with the last owner driving it on the test drive after a hard stop. I'm thinking it could be an overheated pad or worst case a warped disc. What else could it be and how much would good discs and pads on the front if I had to? Think it's running a Pagid pad at the moment.

Apart from the the car is perfect and I love it more every day. Haven't had it long so only noticed it more when I was starting to up the pace a bit as I'm getting used to it.

There have been some decent threads on front and rear discs and pads if you have a look further down the forum, chap. Not sure what else it could be - I have a similar feeling albeit it not affecting braking ability, and perhaps just need the discs skimming as I have new pads. Perhaps take it to a trusted local and ask their opinion? Although I'm sure most will tell you they're knackered and you should replace all through them... :headbang:

The brakes are really strong and there's plenty of bite from normal use but it was just under hard braking. Checked through the receipts and discs and pads were all replaced in September and the car has barely done 1000 miles since

Check the front wishbone rear bushes (lollipops) mine shook the wheel under hard braking & it was these.
How many miles has your car covered?
Regards

A rumbling/groaning under hard braking is normal, a trait of the drilled discs and M setup. How severe is the vibration?

62000 miles.

The vibration is strong enough to shake the wheel but seemed to happen after about an hour or so. I'd been in the car with the previous owner several times before and never saw it which made me think disk or pad. Definitely feels it's just drivers side though

Be interested to see how you get on. I fitted Mtech grooved discs and pads all round last summer. Now when I brake the steering wheel shakes and I can even hear a rattle? Stopping performance is fine, would be dissapointing if the discs were warped I'm not a heavy brake user.

Ok, that's not right. At that mileage if the discs haven't been changed at some point I'd say your due a change, discs are probably done. You could skim, but to be honest your best off just replacing, if they are the originals Id say they would be past there best. Rears may be ok but factor around £300 for the front discs.

Have an invoice for discs and pads done September 2014 and brake sensors? Aren't these built into the pads?

Sensors are seperate. In that case is a bit odd.... Are they OEM discs or aftermarket?

Give them a re bed before anything else , it's free and sometimes works , 60 mph brake as hard as possible to 10 or 20 mph , repeat 6 or more times and drive home as normal to let them cool , it cleans all the pad deposits off the discs .
If it doesn't work and the discs are ok condition you could try on car skimming , it worked for me and a couple of others on z3m , I think it was called pro cut ?
