About to by a full set (3.0i rears, E46 330 fronts) so keen to know what latest opinions are on what's good and where the best prices are.

Currently thinking mtec dimpled and grooved discs and matching pads, or green stuff pads, but open to ideas. Normal road use, so don't need anything track based.

Also, anyone know if I need new wear sensors?

Ta mutely

I'll keep an eye on this as I'm thinking about replacements soon

You only need to replace the wear sensor if it's been triggered....

I have the Mtec drilled and grooved discs with green stuff pads. I originally had mintex pads but i found they gave a lot of brake judder when getting cooked doing the Alps in july. Will find out in just over 2 weeks if it was the pads or the discs when i go to the Pyrenees

Interesting. Mine doesn't really get much abuse (I really should drive it more), and the cost step up to greenstuff is chunky, so I'm thinking mintex pads to start with - at £25 a set, I can always throw them away and start again if they're no good I suppose.

Having read a load of stuff online, the mtec discs seem highly regarded and are reasonably priced, so they seem a no brainer.

Thanks Perry - no warning light so guess they are good to go. BTW, drooled a lot over your car at zedfast at the weekend. Would love an Alpina in my life...

Yes, although I'm interested in the amount of additional noise from dimpled/grooved/drilled discs and recommendations on good low-dust pads (don't mind if they cost more)

Ha! 8) I would have said hello, but each time I came over, you seemed to have a crowd. Couldn't work out if it was your forum stardom, or the Alpina drawing the crowds :P Lovely car though - one day. One day.

I have mtec with Mintex. They are great but the ship put the groved discs in back to front so get judder. I would without question get the 1144 or so equivalent Mintex pads.
I don't trust green stuff after a set disintegrated on me on another car using groves discs and on my Westy were the biggest bag of shite I've used.

Great - not sure on part numbers as have gone with the pads they associated with the discs, but good to hear a positive review (having pressed buy already!). I'll make sure I get them fitted the right way round (if someone can tell me what that is!!).

As the wife, I can answer that quite easily...... The Alpina is much more attractive

Mine are fitted with the groves on the disc pointing (curving) towards the front of the car. Pretty sure it should be with them pointing rearwards. It doesn't affect braking at all just seemes in my case to add a judder when hot.

+1 for mtec discs. Got mtec discs and mintex pads on the front. Mine have the grooves curving towards the rear of the car. I feel like I sometimes get vibration under heavy braking. Not all the time though.

The drilled and grooved discs look better than standard discs. I've got the mintex pads too and get a lot of brake dust. I wouldn't buy them again.
