Discs and Pads (and probably calipers)

My 2.2 Z4 has just clocked 50k and is still looking amazing without any of the seemingly common problems. However, the Discs all round are badly scored and the pads need replacing very soon. I feel I owe it to her to have them done by the Main Dealer so, does anyone have recent experience of replacing these at BMW? If so, what was the cost? Break it to me gently fella's

You owe it to her to have it done somewhere good, whether that is a BMW dealer or not.

If you go to BMW, then you'll pay BMW prices for all the parts and the labour, so you're probably looking at £500-£600.

If you go to a specialist you can probably get the same parts and fitting for half of that!

go with an independent shop! it saves money for generally the same type of work and parts.

try here for prices on parts, I guessed the year

I got my front Discs and pad on the z3 fitted at my local Indie for under £200 using oem BMW parts... prices for parts similar to the Z4

That's where I'm getting my pads from. Then fit them myself....in the words of a well know meerkat "simples"

I am having the discs and pads replaced tomorrow. I decided against the extortionate prices quoted by BMW so I got a full set of drilled and grooved performance discs with the pads for £175.00 delivered from a company called MTEC based in Northern Ireland. Delivery was a bit of a nightmare but was sorted in the end. Anyway, the question I now have is....... when the job is done, will the brake wear sensor activate? I read a thread where this light came on and needed re-setting.

You could have stayed with original parts and just ordered them from EuroCarParts/GSF instead and saved yourself 50%.

I fancied the look of the drilled discs through the alloy wheels. Still half the price of the delaer though

Someone on here had problems with some non-branded Ebay drilled discs a while back, I'll try and find the thread.

changing disc brakes and pads should have no problems with any telltale light as long as you get the correct size and spec.

normally bmw stealers would change the brake sensors everytime you change disc brakes and pads, however if it still in good shape, no need for you to change the sensor

I really hope this does not turn out to be a bad mistake. From someone who started from the position of genuine BMW fitted at BMW, to move to non branded (read cheap) drilled rotors and different pads.

As stated many have had issues with cheaper rotors warping.

Good luck and hope it turns out OK.
