Discount for cash

My wife is looking to upgrade her car. My son is buying the old one so we will have no trade-in.
What sort of discount would you expect to receive for a cash sale (on a car around £7k)
I phoned about a car at the weekend and was offered £175 off

The previous time I asked, albeit a few years ago the garage wasn't interested, He said he could give me more discount if I took finance out!
I walked away in the end
Maybe an age thing (never really been into finance - save up and buy mentality/era)
Would I be better considering this - thoughts/advice appreciated

Ok, it may sound strange but it is indeed how it works for some reason (kick back I assume).

I played them at their own game when getting the Audi, took it with Finance to get the £1k discount + 1 additional year warranty + 2 free services and paid off the finance ...

cheers pvr, now you mention it I think a guy at work did something similar. He asked if there was a penalty for paying off early.
No was the answer, so he did what you said
