Disc thickness

Not having access to workshop manual can anyone enlighten me as to the minimum front disc thickness for a M model, its only done 43000 so I would think it may be ok,no grooves on braking face but the usual non worn lip at outer edge.

According to my last Stratstone 'Vehicle Health Check' the minimum thickness is 26.4 at the front and 18.4 at the rear?

Would be interested if someone has a BMW workshop manual that contradicts that.

The minimum thickness is stamped onto the disc hubs and those figures are correct: i.e. a total of 1.6mm of wear per disc.

Ordered new set of discs,I do like good brakes they do stop you after all,I remember my mate Ernies capri 2.8 he used to drive at 100mph regularly and said to me one day "my brakes are making a funny noise" when I looked through the wheel spokes could see the outer disc face collapsing into the void of the vents, told him to change them so he got some from a scrapyard, theres no telling some folk eh!

Would be interested if someone actually has a bmw workshop manual.

I was one of those folk in my earlier driving day

The first mod I did on my Corrado VR6 was to upgrade the brakes (and fit larger wheels to accommodate them). I'd done a couple of thousand miles and about 4 trackdays on my 330mm AP 4-pots, and had felt the brakes go a little 'off' for a couple of laps and then return to normal but with a bit of a squeal.

Now the pads I was using (Ferodo DS2500) did squeal occasionally, but they'd not done it for a while and I assumed they'd finally got through that stage. So when they started squealing again I took the car back to AMD (the old cottage-industry AMD, not the new corporate turbo-tuning place) and asked them to have a look.

Turns out that the discs were relatively fine, but there was no pad material left at all - and I hadn't even noticed a loss of braking performance

An emergency call around the area on a Saturday morning finally found me a set of DS3000's that would fit, but the guys at AMD didn't look best pleased
