Disc change nightmare.

Took one of my cars to a workshop today to have all the pads and discs replaced.
The front discs are sided, Left, Right. Yes, they got it wrong and only noticed when I got home. Called them and went straight back. Swapped them over.

Then the guy used an impact gun to tighten the wheels.
I politely asked if I'd be able to take the wheels off in case of a puncture.
He said the gun was torqued.

Sure enough, I got home and had to check. Used a long heavy Jack handle for leverage with all my weight to loosen them.

Some mechanics should just pack up their tools and go home.

Quite shocking really. I take it you complained. Should really be reported for incompetency at the very least.
They were already apologetic when I went back.
Mistakes happen, so I let it go.

However I wasn't impressed with the attitude of the guy when I asked about the torque. So I'll be letting his boss know tomorrow.
And never going back.

I thought the studs were going to snap. This bar is hugely heavy.

If you used all all weight on this bar then that would have been +500 lb/ft to release them, I suggest that you replace the bolts as they will be stretched/shocked to hell.

Thanks. I used a lot of force even with the bar.
The bolts are a light alloy, and probably pricey. I'll have to replace them. :(

Bad experience, but no point in losing your rag over it, it'll just boil your blood.

Btw, nice alloys are they Porsche turbo 993 hollow spokes?

Thanks, I agree I've had more important things to worry about over the last few years so I tend to try and always put things into perspective. But It's the "don't care" attitude by others that sometimes still manages to bother me rather than the damage itself.

Close, it's a NB 993 with hollowspokes. I really take care of it. The discs weren't even that but I thought I'd treat it to some new shiny ones.
The discs were absolutely smothered in black oily finger prints by the time he'd finished.
