What car did you always want, listened to the hype and then when you got one, it left you flat and disappointed? For me it was a 997 911 C4S. Bored the crap out of me.
Back in 1995 or 1996 a motor trader mate of mine had a Mercedes C280 Elegance in metallic blue with grey leather and a manual gearbox. He drove me to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in it and asked if I wanted to drive it back. Seeing as I had a Sierra Sapphire at the time I jumped at the chance!
It felt quick and comfortable but also handled well - I loved it (but couldn't afford it).
Then in 1999 I had a 1989 manual Mercedes 190e and my same mate had a 1994 C280 Sport Auto in metallic green with black leather that was for sale. So I asked for a bank loan and got it.
Which meant I bought the car - what a disappointment! The engine was great, but the "Sport" suspension ruined the ride and didn't improve the handling - it felt like a barge! Plus the old-school torque-converter 4 speed auto seemed determined to blunt the performance at every opportunity.
It put me off Mercs for life - I don't feel old enough for one yet, and when I get to that point I think I might prefer a Jag!
Renaultsport Megane F1 team 230 R26 - or however the full name went
Don't get me wrong fantastic car for going fast in, particularly on track, but coming from a 306 Gti6 it just lacked a sense of humor by comparison. Drove it for a year and never gelled with it, then it got crashed into so I got a z4 and never looked back!
E89 Z4........just didn't feel quick and being short I had to contort and duck to miss hitting my face on the top rear of the drivers window when getting into the car.........and my biggest bug bare with them .......no coolant temp gauge on a car with an electric water pump thats prone to failure
