Disappointed - MoT Failure

Well after buying the car in April on a 2004 plate the last thing I expected was an MoT failure this month! I have read on here about the problem previously, broken NS rear coil spring so cost me £130 more than I had expected to get fixed. The upside is although its not covered under my warranty from the independent dealer I bought it off he has agreed to pay £50 of the cost so thats better than nothing I guess. In addition to this in my service advisory notes it was noted that there is a bubble in my rain sensor although it currently functions fine. Has anyone had experience of this? Is it likely to get worse and require replacement? Is that likely to entail extensive cost? Is there anything I can do to prevent deterioration?

Seems to be a common problem with the Z4.

I contacted BMW UK when both rear springs went on mine and got the standard bullshit reply. Not a known problem, Forums cannot be relied on for accurate information, here's the crooked dealer you could go to etc.

That was another reason to go and buy an Audi!

Having had a TT before my two z's I'd say the service I got from audi dealers was dire in comparison to BMW.

And I've had crap service from BMW.

Sorry to hear the MOT problem from the OP

I've not had any problems with my BMW dealer other than prices...

Don't get me started on my experiences with Alfa though...

I gave back a 156 2.5 after 3 months as it was returned 12 times to the dealer.

Great car but maintained by poor fiat technicians.

My local BMW dealer just lost their ability to sell new cars but still maintains and sells parts. I have gone for an independant in Cambridge for all my maintenance needs though - he has the Autologic controller that makes such a difference.

Happy driving

With hindsight, I shoulda given back the 147 but place too much faith in their assurances that everything could be sorted. It couldn't. Even tried a different dealer. Never again, which is a pity because they make some nice cars!

I would agree with the above! Audi reliability and service is rubbish!

Dam* right, I bought a TT roadster from Glasgow Audi and they went on about their 180 point check or whatever it was so I wonder why when I picked it up it had 12 faults some meant an MOT failure, leak in roof, faulty stereo, alarm etc etc. Had to fight for everything, they suck!

All down to good cars / bad cars and Good Dealers / Bad Dealers.

I've had problems with BMW, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Window Regulator(s) (Both Doors), Rear Springs, tools left in car, Attract-A-Nail Tyres, Dashboard scratched, not washed or hoovered, attitude problems and general bad service. All on the Z4 too from the one dealer.

Then again a previous 3 Series was never back at Douglas Park as it had no problems at all.

I'm quite sure there are those on here that haven't had a day's problem but that's not to say there aren't problems with BMW's or Audi's.

I gave up and fitted coilovers! I had my windscreen replaced under warranty when the bubble issue occurred though but only when it started to effect the wiper function.

Had the same issue with mine. My 04 2,5i was not under warrenty, but bmw covered it and the replacment of the fuel tank since they said it was a production failure from there side, a regular issue with the Z4
