Disabling the center console door unlock button on an 03?

/hiya,i just tryed locking my car while sitting in it with the remote and the center compartment is locked and when i pressed the door unlock button next to the hand brake it wont do a thing.... not open the doors or the center compartment,dont know if its been modded before i got the car or if thats standard in the uk
its an 03 plate 3.0ies

Mine is ecactly the same:
Lock it with the remote. Lean in and the central console button is de-activated and does nothing, as are the inner door handles
