DISA

Looking to do some preventative maintenance. I've heard the DISA valve is a common weak point on the m54 3.0i engines and the pin can come loose on them. I've taken mines out to inspect it and it looks and functions fine.

1) Do I buy the rebuild kit or

2) Buy a brand new DISA valve?

Which brand is best? Any links?

Cheers!👍

I’ve been inspecting my M54 DISA every second oil change and it’s been fine so far. Doesn’t take more than a couple minutes. Have a X8R rebuild kit on the shelf but haven’t bothered to install it as long as the original is ok.

I'd get a rebuild kit, not a new plastic one.
Be aware that there are two sizes:
11617544805 - 3.0
11617544806 - 2.2/2.5

Thank you that's very helpful!

Inspect mine 'regularly' as stories of valve flaps being sucked into the engine and grenading were scary enough to warrant it.
However, make sure you replace the orange or green gasket regularly too if you end up doing the same.
