DISA Valve again.

Having read a few posts about the simple DISA valve refurb I decided to go ahead and get the kit for my 2003 Z4.

I’m really happy that I did as like a few other forum members I found the friction fit pin was extremely loose and virtually fell out the housing. Also, the original housing had no O ring seal and was a plastic on plastic fit. I don’t know if this was an omission by the manufacturer or not but the new O ring fits nicely and definitely improves the seal.

For anybody interested I used the X8R kit which I thought was excellent and even came with a small pot of grease and a tube of thread lock.

Thanks for the pointer, I’ve been thinking of doing the same and didn’t know where to start with getting a kit.

My E85 3.0si has an excellent service record but very little by way of receipts so I am slowly ticking off the maintenance (preventative) items since getting the car a couple of months ago. It’s now on 70k miles so there’s a bunch of stuff I’m going to be doing over time ‘just to be safe’.

I just checked with X8R regarding the kit for the 3.0 N52 engine (as the kids they list are for the M54), they responded with the following;

X8R Ltd 11:27
The only DISA valves we list are for the M54, I would recommend checking if the following part numbers are printed on your housing: 7544805 or 7502275.

I thought it might help anyone else looking into the fix. I will try to take a look and report back if there parts are the same between the N52 & M54.

They are not the same, it was completely redesigned for the N52 and problems in that area are rare.

The valve had a rubber sealant from new, the orange ring, however it dries and shrinks over time. These aftermarket seals should fit inside the manifold, most I've seen sit like a squashed doughnut which is wrong. The old sealant should be removed and the new correct sized o-ring fits in the groove and seals inside the manifold. Top one is correct, bottom not.

Hi Haro.
Thanks for the post. I had indeed made the mistake of thinking the orange “ring” was part of the construction and not the actual seal. As you pointed out when I started to remove it, this morning it was very hard & crumbled.

Thanks.
