Hi all. Looking to buy a i6 automotive DISA rebuild kit. Is it worth it?

Hello menor95,

I was reading through another forum the other night and came across this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588505

Not sure if he is still building them or not but it sounds like a better setup and something I am planning to check into when I do the intake upgrade.

Will need to check if the Vacuum is working before I proceed to repair the thing. I found a good guide on how to check if the unit is working before replacing it. It also covers how to install a repair kit. The i6 kit and German auto solutions kit both look really similar. Have i failed to spot any crucial differences?

The guy building the kits I found on the other forum is machining some metal parts to replace a failing plastic parts looked like a good upgrade to me

I think he is still making them. I will email them and update the thread with what happens. I think this is his site.

Yeah that's the guy, I've got a mod in the works to exchange intake manifolds to the 3 stage setup and planning to use an intake from a friends salvage yard, so when I get the parts I'm defiantly going to rebuild the DISA's

Looks to me that that germanautosolutions kit has the same components/materials as that ebay/i6automotive kit? (only not at the same price...not to mention the shipping, not sure how much as his store doesn't work at the moment, and not forgetting VAT + import)

I fitted the i6 kit a couple of weekends ago, the quality is good and my DISA is now much quieter. It's very straightforward and only took about an hour from start to finish.

It's £50 well spent for peace of mind.

Andrew.

Just looked at the I6 kit, yeah looks like they have the upgrade as well and with shipping and taxes a better deal across the pond for sure!

Hi Pascal,

You're not going to re-fit the DISA in this condition are you? The condition is very poor, particularly as the flap looks like it has nearly broken free. You don't want any of the parts ensing up inside your engine.

Andrew.

it looks worse on the picture than it actually is however I am not taking any chances with it. I have ordered a new kit and hopefully I will have it on Saturday. The kit I ordered was from i6. After I rebuild the DISA valve I will update this thread.

I bought the kit as the car was on 90k+ miles. When I removed my DISA it looked fine but as I had gone that far I swapped the parts over anyway, so trouble free miles ahead with peace of mind.

Fitted my repair kit this evening. It was a straight forward and very easy job and the rattle is now gone from the DISA so I am pleased with the results.
For anyone else who is looking at installing a DISA repair kit I followed this guide. http://vanos-bmw.com/installation-manual-disa-bmw-repair-kit
Remember to check if your vacuum pot works and the guide explains how to do this so it is worth a read. The installation of the kit was super easy. :)

Well worth it just for the peace of mind, the thought of that pin dissapearing through the engine beggars belief. Did the conversion about a month ago clear instructions supplied with kit, take about 1 hour. Good luck! Dell.

do you know if this problem also exists with the face lift model 2.5si? I think it has the N52 engine.
