DISA and Vanos done = WOW

Well after buying and fitting a brand new DISA a few weeks ago I've just got my car back from my mechanic after giving him all the bits to do the Vanos seals.

After just a brief drive on very wet roads and in heavy rain tonight it felt more torquey and more powerful

I believe that after 100 miles or more people have reported the car has felt better again once it's settled in more too

Dry day tomorrow so it'll be a full tank of Shell Optimax and then Out for a good long high revving blast :driving: best bit is it only cost me £100 for the labour and had budgeted £200 :D

how much where the seals, and where they the improved non bmw ones?

is 100 the usual charge? is so where from?

Nice one!

Was the Disa valve completely stuck? Mine moves really slowly after letting the air escape...

It was just making a bit of a racket but I was just going to order the cleaning kit and perform the repair but I just treated myself and ordered a brand new one from BMW. Mine upon removal was pretty dirty and had some play in it too but pin was still pretty tight. Difference was noticed upon first drive though so money well spent :driving:

£23.95 and yes they are the improved ones.

I supplied all the seals and gaskets and washers etc so it was only labour charge.

He's been my families mechanic for over 30 years and I've had him do my cars for over 15 years. I therefore get it a bit cheaper than he may charge most but for a good mechanic who has done this before it's only a few hours work anyway. :D

Well just had a chat with me mate who did it and it took a good few hours to do so he did it for a cracking price :D

The solenoid has also had a clean too so time to give her a good blast :driving:

The DISA is part of your intake system and allow better torque curves at various RPMs but when it fails it can be catastrophic to your engine.

I recommend disa repair kit instead of new disa.

I just opted for new rather than mess about with the repair kit. Guess it depends if people have a spare £200 knocking about :D

Repair kit fitment is 30min diy job. Bmw original disa design have design fault. (Pin can fall to your engine) Disa with repair kit do not include any failing parts and you can use old disa valve. I fitted GAS repair kit for my z and i higly recommend it for everyone who is still running m54 with original disa valve..

Very slim chance of that happening to be honest and my pin was still ok even after 93k miles though the flap had quite a bit of play and was gunked up too.

Each to their own I guess but I preferred to go for a brand new one and I'm very impressed :driving:
