Dirty wheel?

I was cleaning the interior of my car and rubbed the steering wheel a bit. Then noticed how bad it looked. It looks like dirt, but it's so even over the buttons and bottom 'spoke' of the wheel.

Is it dirt, whats best to remove it? Just scrub?

that isn't dirt, its the soft touch plastic which wears off on almost all our Zed's - best thing to do is remove it completley using a scourer pad (removing the trims from the wheel first) and spray with Halfords satin black or simmlar.

I think it's the rubbery coating coming off through wear.

I think there is a couple of posts on here about how to refurb the plastic sections.

Swiftly put me onto the 'magic sponge' (bought via ebay for less than a couple of quid for a pack of ten or something). Slightly dampen it and then I used it to clean the leather of the steering wheel - you'll be surprised how much muck comes off. Then I conditioned it with a little leather food/cream. It leaves the rubberised leather in fabulous condition and I like to leave mine matt but you can polish it up if you like, back to shiny.

Thanks guys.

What about cleaning the leather? I have leather cleaner but concerned about getting the coloured thread 'dirty'

That's all well & good if your rubberised coating hasn't already peeled off like the OP's has, painting or new trims is the only option sadly

I'm talking about the Rim Jamie - it works, well and good, on that and was a revelation to me - transformed the look and feel of my steering wheel  There's been some advice given re the trim sections above.

Ahh the 'rubberised' bit threw me I thought you meant the rubber coated sections as in the first pics!

No - sadly that looks a much more difficult issue to sort out :(
