Dipping wing mirror and roof operation from key fob

When I had my 2012 Z4 which was highly specced, when I put the car in reverse, the passenger door wing mirror would dip to make parking easier. That car had auto dimming & folding wing mirrors.

My new 2011 Z4 doesn't have folding mirrors, but they are electrically adjustable. However, it doesn't dip the passenger mirror when putting in reverse. I know it only works when the adjustment switch is in a specific place (either left or right)...I've tried both and it still doesn't do it.

So, is it only a feature on "some" specs, or should they all do it?

Also, on my old car, I'm pretty sure I could open the windows and roof from outside when unlocking by holding the unlock button down. And same when locking, hold the lock button and roof/windows would close. Again, is this an option or should they all do it?

The car has iDrive...an option in there perhaps? I know I could get a smart top....
 
The mirror works when you put it to the passenger side, and I believe it only works with the folding mirrors, the roof is standard to open off the key fob but not closing
 
Ah, it was when I tried closing it, so that sounds ok then, i'll check it with opening.

Shame about the mirror...but if thats the case then it means mine isn't broken.

Its the opposite, the switch should be set at the drivers side for the passenger mirror to dip.

Dead right it is opposite
 
My roof does open when holding unlock. Tested it just now as I wanted to take the wind deflector out (washing the carry case for it and wanted to see if it needed a clean)...who cares if its nearly dark outside!
 
Smart top gives you all the functionality you need.

As for the dipping mirror, you’re not missing much as it doesn’t dip far enough for you to see the wheel base and kerb which would be the most useful thing.
 
Yeah, I know about smart top, but thats £300ish I think.

Had dipping mirror previously and did find it useful. But in this case it's more about should the car have it (and is it broken) or is it just not there. Seems that its only on the folding mirrors, which I don't have.

I presume it is only on the folding mirror option, you can of course, just angle it down yourself when you reverse :D
 
I have it constantly angled down.....convenience before safety! Just have to look over my shoulder more. I’ll probably put it back to normal though.

Does smart top do this .... or is it just roof related? Might do though cos it allows automatic folding mirrors on lock/unlock.
