Dipped Headlights

OK, this is going to sound stupid, but how far should my dipped headlights project? I can't help feeling they seem too low and certainly driving in the dark I get an uncomfortable "short sighted" feeling. I seem to recall (although I may be wrong it's been a while and several cars ago) that my previous M adjusted the lights (you could see them move) when switched on... my current one doesn't. They both illuminate brightly enough and the full beam is fine....

Andy suggestions or is it just me?

Thanks,

They should auto level as you switch the ignition on. They should also auto level if the car is loaded.

Switch the lights and ignition on, open the boot and sit on the boot lip, wait 15 seconds, do they dip.

Fairly certain mine are not adjustable. However, the Z4MC's lights are undoubtedly the best on any car I've owned.

It is usually a fairly simple job to raise the dipped headlight projection although I've not done it on the Z...

Sorry, but that statements not really correct or at least misleading.
What actually happens is that the lights have to be set correctly in the first place using a beam adjuster (or against a wall with appropriate measurements).

Once set then when they are switched on the lights cycle the step motors to set them to the predetermined position They are an old style step motor that cannot remember where it's parked so cycles. If weight is added (people, luggage, fuel) then they again adjust to the preset position.

All the cylcling and adjustment does is returns to a set position so if that's wrong (too low too high) then it keeps it wrong.

Hope this clarifies
