So could a tube and dipstick from an earlier N52 engine fit?
Just might be useful for sucking the oil out from above, save crawling under the car.

'For mechanics only.' You have the comparatively complex technology of a pop-up screen to display this information, to tell you what to do and when to do it. Be grateful.

Did the earlier N52 have dipstick? I never knew, I wished mine did. Last Sunday I got warning bong with yellow oil light saying low oil add 1 litre asap. I parked car back in the garage when to the store room got some oil went back to the car and started it up and checked the idrive oil measurement again which surprise surprise showed the oil to be at max and status OK. So I put the oil back in the store room and have been monitoring it since and so far every time it shows level at max and status OK.

The only thing I can figure is that when I got the bong the car had the two wheels on the drivers side higher up on the kerb then the left side, maybe that jolted the reading somewhat but wouldn't it be way simpler and better just to have a dip stick so can physically check not only the level but the condition of the oil too! Car makers are over engineering cars for no reason (who is it a hidden agenda?) with things like this electronic dipstick electronic handbrake stupid touchscreen through which have to control all the car's basic functions. :x

I think he’s mistaken, I’ve read plenty of posts lamenting the lack of an n52 dipstick & never once read of a retrofit solution.
He’s a car salesman, i don’t trust him :P

Your a wise Bear Rob.

Well i checked my N52 and he is mistaken.
It covers a small casting that looks it might connect to say a oil gallery, perhaps it's possible to measure oil pressure there.
Below are the exhaust pipes.
Realoem shows the two sump variants, one with a pipe and one with a blanking plug on the bottom left of sump.

I'm pretty sure the N52 engine was 1si used in the E9* 3 Series models that came out in 2005.

I had a 325i built in August 05 and swapped to a 330i last year - neither of them had a dipstick.

Unless BMW fitted one for different markets I doubt any N52s had one.
