DIN unit thoughts?

I had one of these flip screen units in a recent Audi TT..all the gubbins etc on it ..a top of the range Kenwood...was great for IPhone..phone etc..

BUT...

After a while it just looked dated ..it collected dust and just wasn't good to look at ..it always seemed not part of the dash etc.

.if you can get or make an integrated one.that would look cool...and be different..a challenge Jonny boy.. :thumbsup:

Yes but ill just turn them off and use side vents or heated seats, apart from that what do u think?

I prefer a more integrated / OE look myself, but I am sure they're fine.
 
I think most of us agree that the standard fascia is probably best suited to the car. That's why I went down the route I did with investing in a RE-Q so I could tap into the stock front speakers and I didn't have to change the head unit.

However the sound system is lacking. I think some kind of flip screen is likely to look better as it should cover up the rubbish look of a non standard head unit that wouldn't sit flush with the dash.
 
I think it looks horrific (sorry), that aftermarket look is better suited to a saxo in my opinion.

You've spent a lot of time adding OEM parts to the car for a reason, BMW style wheels, bmw skirts etc, it's things that are upgrades that work perfectly, this'll be a very ugly compromise at best.

Ha yes it would be a jigsaw I'd use! Did your neighbour pay for the scratch/ scuffs in the end?

Not yet - but the car is all sorted now, which is nice... so far no sign of anything except complaining about how much it cost.
 
Will it leave clearance for the supercharger?

They do look really aftermarket. I saw one in a mate's Vito and it complemented the 6x9s he had mounted on some chipboard.

JBL offer a product called the MS8 which gives you an eq option for an all in one product.

Alternatively audison's bit line of processors is another option that allows greater flexibility for choice of amplifier.
 
Hi, just had a custom install using the Alpine IVA 511RB which with the speaker upgrades is 100% better than the stock BMW audio. I don't have audio controls on the steering wheel of my Z4 so like the easy to use interface the screen gives. Also the unit can be operated with the panel retracted. I like the fact I now have CD, CD changer, iPod/USB, DAB, FM and blue tooth all integrated. Having replaced the MULF unit on her 3 series and the problems around steelership prices, the Alpine is a better quality unit. Down to taste at the end of the day!
