Dim lights

Does any body else think that the dip headlights are not too good on these cars. I fitted osram nightbreaker lamps to my audi which were significantly better but these hid units seem to be disappointing, I had them on my old Focus and they were great,seems strange.
 
Goon - do a search, plenty about lights. You need to fit osrams then locate the white plastic screw on top of the light to increase the height of the beam. If they are exactly centred then full turns of the screw appears to be the rule, turn back down for your MOT. Bit of advice - do it with your lights on, aimed at a wall so you can see what you're doing to the height. I didn't, they're not right, and only someone with the right kit can re-centre them. :roll:
 
I cranked mine 1 1/4 turn on each side and they are as close to perfect as I need...prior to doing this they were pathetic. I don't get anyone flashing me to dim them so I assume they are OK for oncoming traffic at this setting
 
Adamski....Not sure if you were asking me or the original poster regarding Zenon

I'm rapidly learning the UK vocabulary

Dipped = Low Beam
Full Beam = High Beam
Motor = Car
Boot = Trunk

My Headlights are Zenon but when dipped they were set up too low. It necessitated driving slow in the dark or using Full Beam as much as possible. They are great dipped after cranking them 1 1/4 turns higher
 
Was more a general question. Sorry, wandering off topic :headbang:

If you have Xenon they should self level at a good height for normal driving at night. However if your car has been lowered your lights might need to be re-set by your local BMW garage

Have you got after market HID's fitted or OEM

Sorry - that's not really correct. Xenon lights need to be correctly set and adjusted just like any other lights. One set then the self levelling compensated for any changes in load and movement while driving. If set too low or high it just keeps them adjusted to that 'wrong' position.

Ah, I see. Sounds like OP needs to raise hieght or get it checked out by Indy/BMW? I find the xenons on my zed far better at night than the lights on my previous cars. Full beam is astonishing, and often dazzles when reflecting off sign posts etc
 
Agree - have xenons on mine and at night on rural roads the reflection off road signs can be blinding. Often stay on dipped as that's ample.

My new Jag has halogen and they a re about as much use as a pair of candles strapped the the wings :(
 
Hey I know this topic has been discussed to death, but does anybody know of a thread that details all of the options to improve the headlights? I've got halogen and for night driving they are simply pathetic. I would contemplate the upgrade to Xenon, but it would seem to be pretty expensive, so perhaps just better halogen bulbs and adjusting the level up a bit would be better? But instead of asking questions it would be better to read but the options first ;)

Yeah I've run across that name in a few places so might have to look into it. I'm guessing there's no need to upgrade the high beams as it's only the low beams (dipped) that are too dull...
