Dilemma E89 v Lotus Evora - opinions welcomed

The Lotus is lovely

The steering on the M is not that much heavier though, IMO... And I know there's one you'd have in a heartbeat :D

Tough choice Ruth but one would satisfy the head , the other the heart  the E89 looks a refined package but the Lotus looks out of this world & sure to thrill each & every time you ventured out :driving:
As mentoned your cash would stay safer in the Lotus as 89s are not exactly holding their value :o

Save your self 20k and by an M\\\. Then take the family on a massive Holiday. 8)

That Evora does look tempting though.

Lotus every time, a Zed doesn't come close I'm afraid. The Lotus is a baby supercar. The Zed...well, the Zed isn't!

Must be me but the E89 looks far more interesting to look at with its swooping curves, the Lotus looks plain boring :| No idea how the Lotus drives but the E89 would satisfy me more sitting on the drive :)

Tim.

Evora looks stunning ! Would be a tough choice for me,think the E89 would be a better everyday car but as a weekend toy got to be the Lotus
Have you had a test drive yet ?

Well test drive of Evora booked for Monday so we'll see how it drives. Have to say it's going to be hard to find a car I feel as comfortable in as the E86
Good to hear about the reliability though OG - that is one of my concerns.

For the money, if it were me I'd go Masa Granturismo. Second hand now around £30k mark.

But it's not my money, so my vote is for the Lotus. You only live once and if you can manage Porsche servicing costs then Lotus should be fine.

Oh and do drive an M before you decided too. The steering isn't as heavy as you'd imagine.

Do you visit customers? The Lotus might be a challenge for that (I can't take my 911 either).

You will lose 20k in 3 years on the E89, much less in the Lotus though so financially the Lotus makes more sense.

First impressions form the test drive were
I love it and it's awesome
Tony now out driving
Has to be said we are driving the demonstrator and not the one we would actually be buying

I've got a pal who has a Maclaren P1 - he's often upset that he can't really use the car day to day cos he's worried about leaving it in car parks etc.

Another thing to add to the "To consider" list

I don't see why an Evora would attract any more anti-social attention than an E89? On the contrary I reckon there is probably more goodwill out there towards Lotus as a small, British manufacturer (yes I know they are Malayasian owned but you know what I mean).

Would be interesting to see how the demo car compares to the one you're getting on the interior front. Had a sit in a part leather, part alcantara Evora at Goodwood - seriously nice - and then also a leather/plastic mix, which was like a different car altogether. Pretty horrible, to be honest. Without the plush materials your eyes are drawn to some of the details, which are looking a little dated.

I want something small and fun. I don't want a Porsche as we have the Cayman, I don't want something that feels like a normal car but sporty eg M3 which feels just like my 5 series inside

Truth be told what I really want is my zed reincarnated to be a more up to date version of itself, maybe upgraded to a M - but I'm not sure I would like the heavier steering on a daily basis. I'm not sure that's the E89 either :|

But yes im lucky to be having such a dilemma :)

From what you have just said, then go for a E89, but personally i'd have the Lotus

MrPT you are absolutely right on the interior - it's much nicer on the slightly newer cars than the one we were originally looking at which adds another issue in to the debate

Today we resolved that is wasn't a definite no and that we both loved driving it. I'm not sure that I'll be any more concerned parking it than I am my zed (very) even though it's worth more. One of the issues though is that I park in a car park under a building which has lots of pillars which get scraped regularly. The zed is really easy to manoeuvre round them but the lotus wouldn't be

Oh and I have driven an M - it feels quite a bit heavier steering to me. And I can't get one much newer than my zed. Although I could get one with much lower mileage

Interesting how you start to notice all the nice things about the zed when you think of changing it.

As a woman with an M - the steering is heavy (and the gears and clutch). It can be tiring to drive short distances around town. I am lucky to have not got rid of my DD when I bought it otherwise I'd be knackered all the time.
