Dilemma! - 108 Alloys / MV2's / Runflats / Falken 452's

A month ago a bought my Z4 Coupe.
I spent ages getting one with the colour combo & spec & wanted
(Silver Grey, red leather, sat nav, xenons, heated electric seats)
unfortunately, it came with MV2 alloys
which is what was on my old car i had for the last 5 years ! and i hated cleaning them(a 330d M Sport)
anyway,
The easier thing to add to the car to get it the way i want is to change the alloys.
I bought a set of 108's off here & got the outer rim only refurb'ed.
I opt'ed for Spray painting them in silver, as i don't like the plasticky look of the powdercoat
the centre part was fine.

My local garage told me that taking the run flats off & refitting them is very hard - as the sidewall is very stiff on "part worn tyres"
(Is he talking crap?)
also - he thinks he'll scrape the paint at the rim.

So, my dilemma is:
1) Swap them over & use the Bridestone runflats (6 to 7mm all round) and then sell on the MV2's
2) Buy a non run flat tyre, fit to the 108's and sell the MV2's with runflats
3) not bother & just punt them on - try & get my £450 cost back

Sorry for long winded post.......

Where are you? Tyre fitters seem to vary a lot.

Shane at Lepsons tyres in Kent will look after your wheels and tyres (run flats OK too) very well.

Kwik-fit in Nottingham will scrape the wheels nicely.

My buddy runs a wheel refurb shop and tyre fitting and he'll confirm that refitting old RFT's on 18" rims gives rise to a significant chance of scraping the rims. If you've painted the lips then no chance of fitting without damage.

Me - I'd sell on the MV2 and tyres (or stick them on the garage for when I sell) and get some new tyres on your refurbed rims.

^^^ DO THIS, IMO.

I'm sure you'll know all about the difference in ride non-RFTs give so this would be a great opportunity to change to them. Non-RFTs do have more give in the sidewall than RFTs so are slightly easier to fit, but when tyres have as shallow sidewalls as those on 18" Z4 wheels it's still bloody difficult.

You're in Edinburgh: post up on Pistonheads in the Scotland section and I'm sure someone will suggest a decent/trusted tyre fitter who will fit with no/minimal damage. I'd used a mobile guy - Nitro Tyres in Cowie - who's amazing, but he's based just outside Stirling and I doubt he'd travel to Edinburgh.

I have a coupe in the same colour as yours and also have the mv2's, also having previously had them on a 3 series. Initially I really wanted some 108's, but after a rather strange experience trying to buy some I gave up on the idea. Have to say, the mv2's are growing on me, seem to suit the shape nicely, although agreed they do take a bit of effort to clean.
If I were to get 108's though, I wouldn't even consider changing the runflats onto them, get yourself a fresh set of non-runflat tyres. The only reason you'd want to keep the runflats is if you ever want to trade in the Z4 at a BMW dealership as they'll insist on runflats or reducing your trade in price by the cost of a new set of tyres.
