Has anyone any experience of these?

E-89 version, is £27 shipped to UK

Any of us who has had a Mini (the old one ) will remember the magnetic sump plug. Very important in that system as the gearbox was thrashing around in the engine oil!

Magnetic plugs are not standard on aero engines, all ours have quick release fitments for the 50 hr oil changes. They more likely to be found on gearboxes, especially helicopters.

They also do one for the E85

Cheap enough to replace when you do an oil change and can certainly do no harm.

Ok, they were standard on the RB 211 and Olympus engines I had the pleasure of dealing with.

They are a good idea no doubt about it but if your motor goes into a dealer for service - will they re-fit the plug and how would you check?

I'm sure most techies are honest but ?????

I would say this is the major issue.
You could I suppose engrave an identifying mark and ask them to replace the same plug.
PITA and if they lose it............???

Can think of a lot better things to spend £27 on, like petrol!
Magnetic plug in engine sump a bit pointless on most cars with seperate gearbox, good idea on a lot of bikes.
The gearbox is where all the metal chips might be made from grinding the gears. The TR7 had a gearbox oil pump made from fibre, with a coarse filter, needless to say the gears were chewed up when inspected. That would have benifited from a magnetic sump plug.

Manual, believe they where Rover gearboxes.
had it apart to try and fix a stiff shift from 1st to 2nd.
Couldn't afford to replace the meshes so just replaced the gear pump and reassembled.
