Digital dipstick

Would it not smoke if burning oil? It isn’t smoking any it drives lovely it’s a great car but I probably have new owner issue or paranoia possibly

Fingers crossed then as I’ll just sell it with an honest description if it’s got issues but let’s hope it’s just innocent under filled
The garage did say unless we got the amount wrong which did make me think they did not appreciate the amount it needed

I had my van oil changed two weeks ago it holds 7.5 litres the garage put 5 in and I drove off warning light straight on so went back, the garage saying the parts place only sent 5 litres basically blaming the parts supplier you could not make it up
Not necessarily, the cats combined with heavily baffled/wadded silencers seem to do a good job of hiding oil burning from the tail pipes, they usually appear heavily sooted with specks on the rear bumper as well. I’ve never seen clouds of blue smoke from one even when it’s known to be an oil burner :?

All good we have both been out separately today oil level holding car running excellent so the garage definitely did not put the right amount in ....happy

The discussion makes me wonder if anybody ever offered an aftermarket physical dipstick ?
I'd be interested just out of old habits... You know = check the oil then wring the piss out of it. :evil:
My N52 works a charm. Tells when it is 1/2 liter low or full. It's spot on within minutes 8)

Note that in the first 6 months I drove the car I kept the rpms higher than I do now. And oil consumption has decreased. Maybe I'm just not driving it like a race car or maybe I've learned to trust the low end torque a bit more as it will pull Anyway the point is my oil consumption has decreased with my driving habits... and believe me I've not slowed down I'm just using a lower rpm range. Makes sense, eh?

The garage guy on the phone is adamant there is a facility to use a dipstick on these cars he said it’s a tube that’s sealed I wasn’t prepared to disagree but I’m sure it would be widely known on here

This is the same garage guy who only put 5 litres in because that's all he was sent ???

I've never done an oil change on these, but was offered sound advice on this forum. Measure the amount that comes out and put about that amount back in. Not rocket science is it? :roll:

The van definitely got 5 litres when it needed 7.4 they blamed the parts supplier

The z4 I believe went a similar route but I can’t prove it other than going down and requesting to see what oil was ordered from the supplier as it will be logged....but you know what I’m just grateful the car is right yes I’m not over the moon about it but in this climate I’m not going to lose sleep but I have learned a lesson don’t go to one of the big fast fit companies for an oil change but I just wanted a quick oil and filter whilst I work out a service route to go on going forward (ie who to take it to), I always look after my vehicles as much as I can
