Digi Radio offer

I had the BMW offer to fit digi radio for £300 - Is it worth having? I have a sneaking suspicion it might look like a stick on bit of kit!

The things that I do like are the extra channels (BBC6 is good) and the current music track info. I use the DAB a lot but as I said £300 is bit steep.

Sound quality seems fine to me given that I'm sitting in a car with all the other sources of sound going on.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will give this on a miss - I dont fancy the idea of a remote kicking about the car or stuck on the dash! Thats not fully intergrated in my book.

AFAIK you can also control via the Steering Wheen (I know you can on I drive enabled 5 Series etc)

I have standard too, as said extra channels are nice, but out here in the stick it does show "No Signal" on quite a few occasions.

I'm not sure I fancy the idea of a halfords fitter rummaging about with the electronics in my car!

you will be fine, untill you discover they have fitted a set of hideous wheels the rear wing from an A380 and an exhaust made from an industral sized baked bean tin at the same time.... :P

Its the scotchlok and chocolate block connectors with the twisted wires and insullation tape combo that bothers me. :D

At least an A380 wing on the bootlid will be to aircraft industry standards!

AFAIK yes BMW use the AutoDAB system

The AutoDAB one is the Halfords one.

Wouldn't let Halfords near mine either, all this stuff is plug and play though.

It will be standard for 2013 so maybe the parts or revised head units will start appearing on eBay next year.

I did find a BMW DAB tuner on ebay but it went for stupid money. I'll wait a bit longer and see what other kit comes out. The AutoDAB looks good but would not used the aerial supplied as it looks pants. They do sell others types though so there are a few options.

Had DAB in my last 3 Series but living in North Yorks very little coverage and unless I was driving through an urban area just kept getting NO SIGNAL.

No problems here in the northwest. Good signal and quality. It's devoid of the swishing noise from fm etc and quick to change channels. There's also a huge list of stations compared to fm.
